Tannath: Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.

I was never an RPG fan, until I played this that is. First played it at a friends house and it was love at first sight. Buggy as hell, but what a ride.

monkeydelarge: You mean, you saw Jeanette and it was love at first sight. LOL
Lol. Actually I saw VV first, my friend was playing through Hollywood at the time. ;) But yeah, Jeanette is my favourite. There are other great characters in there, but Jeanette/Therese stands out. Fantastic voice acting by Grey DeLisle, a well-known voice actress who among many other things voiced Azula in the The Last Airbender TV series.

darthspudius: Yeah spot on. I never understood the love for NV but the hate for Fallout 3. It was more fun and have a lot more to keep things interesting. It also didn't have those giant orange flies. Urgh! It was a decent game though.

saith32: Because people see 3 as a bastard by Bethesda and new Vegas was made by the people behind 1 and 2. Obsidian is the people who were with interplay on them.
The other makers of fallout I believe went to inexile.
I always find that opinion hilarious considering Obsidians horrific game list. Bethesda have some glitches but Obsidian really know how to put them to shame.

monkeydelarge: For me, it's Fallout. I will always love Fallout.
I like the first one, but the I still keep coming back to the second one more often. I have no clue why :/

Bethesda have been a hit or a miss. I never liked their 90's RPG's but some of their more recent stuff has been a big improvement over the tedious Morrowind days. Obsidians games are usually just as boring, glitchy messes all the same. Badly made good ideas for the most part.

hucklebarry: Thief. Always Thief.

I hated the abysmal ragdol physics and clunky controls of the 3rd game (not to mention the rope arrow removal and load zones due to the inferior xbox specs)... but the game was still a great Thiefy game set in that wonderful atmosphere.

Thief 4 introduced new problems and sold out in various ways that I don't approve of, but in the end, the gameplay was wonderful.

As of now, I still am utterly in love with the franchise. My biggest concern, should they do another game, is the plot. The plot in Thief 4 ramped up to pretty much nothing, which was a ginormous letdown. But due to the fun gameplay and atmosphere, I still clocked over 100 hours in that game alone.

Runners up would be Morrowind, Oblivion, Deus Ex 1, NOLF.
Thief is awesome. And you, you amazing person, just simply gave me a brand new preorder copy of Thief 4. I've just upgraded to a 64-bit system and have Thief 4 cued up as my main game again. I took a break after roughly 25 hours or so from that accursed asylum level. I couldn't play it for 10 minutes without having a heart attack. The atmosphere is so spectacular and the insane things going on just kept freaking me out. I hope to hit 100 hours with it eventually, too! There's so much to do. After I finish this play-through, I intend to get through it on a super-crazy-hard difficulty. Should be fun!

Thief 1 is definitely one of those awesome games for me. I first played a pirated copy at my college. Where I went, we had a guy that would host a few games. The Internets were still young and speeds were slow, but on our massive LAN that connected roughly 1200 students, you could move files with lightning speed. Nobody had even thought much about the morality of pirating. It was more about the possibility of sharing games. The normal cycle was to use the pirated games as demos (they often weren't complete anyway) and then buy what you loved. So I downloaded Thief b/c I loved playing thieves in RPGs. The game was missing all of the movie files, so the story made no sense. I played the tutorial level, then ran to the mall and picked up a copy. It was that good. And I just sucked up that whole game.

Might and Magic Book 2 is also huge on my list. I spent more than a decade playing it. I learned all there was to learn about it. I just liked it for its simplicity and complexity.

And lastly, Neverwinter Nights. No game has taken more hours of my life. And they were well-spent. Adventures with others or myself, the game is filled with spectacular events and, with a good DM, amazing stories that I'll always remember. Things as simple as tomb-raiding and as complex as dethroning a king. It was just an amazing game that bridged my bedroom to the rest of the world after moving half-way across the country for a 6-month stint. It was pretty neat.

Thems is the bigguns fer me.

lmao I consider them a bit of a joke if I'm honest.

Similar story here. A friend came to my dorm room and asked if I'd heard of any sword fighting games for the PC. I actually recalled a picture in a PCGamer mag that I had just received so we looked into it and downloaded the demo. All of the stores were closed, so we played Bafford's manor (the demo) for 15 hours that night until the stores opened and I could buy the whole game. Funnily, I never really used the sword ;)
"Asteroids" for Atari 2600. First game I ever played.

"Pitfall" for Atari 2600. Used to spend all afternoon with my friend playing that till she broke the joystick and ran away in fear, she eventually came back next day and we continued playing, since Atari joysticks were as durable as a paper boat in the rain :P

"Super Mario Bros. III" for NES. Good thing cartidges never really wear down. Played the heck out of it with my sister.

"Super Mario World" for SNES. Same as above.

"The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" for SNES. First RPG I ever played.

"Pengo" for Atari 800XL. Had to cop......backup it in another audio cassette because those wear down fast.

"The Secret of the Monkey Island" for Amiga 500. First ever adventure point & click that I ever played and my favourite of the genre.

"Street Fighter II" for Commodore Amiga CDTV. Used to hold tournaments at home among my friends.

Too many to mention when it comes to PC, between adventures, space simulators, RTS, flight simulators, and fps.
But to name a few "Warcraft", "Command & Conquer", "Indiana Jones", Homeworld", "Descent Freespace", "Comanche", "Starcraft", "The Secret of Monkey Island 2", "The Day of the Tentacle", "Wharhammer 40.0000", etc.
Thief 2 The Metal Age: Superb stealth game, dripping with atmosphere and features a lovable anti-hero - what's not to love about that? :-)

I haven't heard anything bad about Stick of Truth so far. The reviews have been quite good and I haven't come upon a single mention of a bug yet. I'm sure there are some (all software this complex has bugs, no matter how polished it may be, it's just a question of how many and how frequent they are).

I know, I was genuinely shocked about. The only great game in their collection if I do say so. They actually took the time to complete it properly.

iippo: Go
The God Emperor of all skill based 1vs1 games.

Blood Bowl
Has its issues, but playing league with friends rocks.

Plenty of other games too like Brothers: a tale of two sons, but those are few i can and do actually still play.
I got 'Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons' for ps3 through ps plus, but barely gave it a try. Maybe it's time to check it out again! :)

There's a roleplaying ruleset for Vampire Masquerade too i think? Do you know if that's any good? Also, i don't really know much about Masquerade, is it vampiric in the traditional sense (say, Dracula for example) or something more modern like Underworld?

katya_stevens: Dungeon Keeper 1. One of the very first non edutainment games I got for PC and I fell in love with it. It was a combination of the humour used, the gameplay idea (playing as the bad guy?), and the general fun and strategy/planning involved.

It either was a fun game to me, thus it stayed installed; or it stayed installed and through all my playthroughs of it I grew to like it even more. I was really disappointed when, after almost ten years of having it, it stopped working (the disc failed first, so I copied to a pen drive, then after a time it stopped working on the pen drive as well). I knew of GOG probably when it started up, but I only paid signed up in 2013 for whatever reason. One sale later, I had a working copy of Dungeon Keeper once again :)
I've only heard good things about Dungeon Keeper, it's a shame I haven't tried it yet :( Somehow it went under the radar here where i live back in the day. I got it for free on gog some time ago, so I think I have no excuses now.

Rollercoaster Tycoon games as well as Transport Tycoon games and Transportation Tycoon. Pretty all builder type games. It is the strategy and watching things being built that is the best part of the games. I used to play the hell out of the Sierra Builders, SimCity2,3,4 and all of Chris Sawyers games. I just could not get enough of them. Lately it has been that way with Tropico 4 and 5.

When ever I can't think of something to play that is not a shooter I always fall back to a builder game.
