sorry about my previous threads, i acted like a complete asshole, i will understand if you wish i burn in hell.
if you can forgive me, keep reading:
nowadays, you enter in a store, and you don't see many games for sale (im speaking about my city. maybe its different where you live) like in the past.
i like collecting games and keeping them in shelves, but some of them can only be obtained in digital versions, or special editions for a very limited time (resonance). i miss the old days.
maybe you think im moron, because i can play the game in any case, so why im whining?
but just like books, i like feeling them in my hands. and the smell when you open the box of your new game, for me these little things make it worth the price, even if i have to pay more (digital versions are cheaper normaly).
what do you think? do you prefer purchasing physical copies or digital?

Since new retail PC games are Steam-in-a-box it has become pretty much pointless to buy retail imo.
For old games there are your local 2nd hand markets or (overpriced) Amazon and E-Bay.

I love physical copies. When I think of all the boxes I've thrown out over the years, it makes me sad. At the time, though, I never thought "Some day, I'm going to wish I had this back."

The biggest draw of digital is convenience, it seems. For music, games, and even books now, there seems to be a push of "it's the content that counts, not what form it takes", which to me kind of takes some of the fun out of it. I would personally prefer to buy a real book with two covers and pages in between, buy a real cd with its own case and booklet, and buy a game in a box.

I had a lot of physical copies of games, nice boxes they were. Only a few of them survived the infamous video game purge my wife orchestrated some years ago.

That was a sad day.

I miss my box from the original TR. It was so cool but you couldn't really put it on a shelf because of it's shape. I also miss my Postal box that had the bullet holes that went all the way through. Oh the memories.

Edit. I managed to save my retail copy of The Movies. I hung onto that like it was my mother, hissing.

For me, digital copies are much more convenient. I never had a lot of room, and I fully embraced the digital age as a great solution for any storage problems. ;)

I'm actually often re-buying digital copies of games that I already own, so that I can finally ditch (or give away) the disc. Boxes always ended in paper trash directly after purchase; much too unwieldy. I used to keep the manuals, but nowadays there's little reason for that either, since most manuals are available as PDF in one form or another.

There are a few boxes that I did keep, but these are rare exceptions. Ultima V with the cloth map and the coin that symbolizes the 3 powers and 8 virtues, "Leather Goddesses of Phobos" with the scratch'n'sniff pad, etc.

Sometimes I just want to redesign or take video game covers from other region. I don't know why US covers are mostly tacky and bad but Japanese and European console covers are amazing.

Btw someone made a thread about making console covers for GOG games, check it out.

For me, it depends on the size of the game. I prefer to have the disc/s for larger games because those take a very long time to download with my internet connection. I'm fine with digital copies for smaller games.
