Kool man, can't really go wrong with either of those for the most part. There used to be a little demo for Defender's Quest on GOG here somewhere (can't seem to find it at the moment) that used to let you play the first couple of missions or so, then if you like it (which pulled me in originally) you can import your game directly into your purchase.

From recent games, the one with by far the best unlock system (while not being an RPG) was the new Tomb Raider. The first hour or so is quite QTE-heavy which is the downside, but when you get trough that, you get a excellent, well-polished gameplay and one of the best progression systems I have ever seen in a videogame. Not really by its mechanics - those are quite normal, you get points which unlock abilities and stuff which allows you to upgrade weapons, but the implementation is absolutely superb. All the character upgrades can be felt, the main character genuinely gets better at what you want her to and her actions, behaviour and movements are slowly changing troughout the game. The same applies to weapons - all the weapon upgrades actually show on the weapon models themselves and many will change the way in which you use the weapons.

Thank you guys for all your help, but when I was reading all those posts I realized something...I played so many games that I don't have what to play anymore and enjoy it...I will try later some games recommended by you guys but overall it seems there is nothing there that can keep me enjoying it, maybe in the near future I will find something great but for now...it seems like the big drought has began.

Well in that case, just don't play anything if you don't want to ruin it for yourself. Go do something else for a couple of months, you'll come back and actually enjoy it then :-P

I'm playing and loving Anachonox at the moment, if you don't completely hate jRPG combat it may well restore your faith in games as its full of so many ideas, SO many, it throws away idea for a gag that other games are built entirely around!

Also Fable and Outcast are nice worlds to hang out in when you're feeling down...

Funny you should bring this up. This past month, instead of gaming late into the night after work, I have started reading again in bed before sleep. I had a big pile of books (ie: backlog, lol) that I hade purchased at the bookstores over the past year or two, and just sat on my side table collecting dust....have started ripping through them again, and rediscovered one of my favorite bedtime rituals...well, except weekends with my gf ;-)

If you liked the mechanics of the Neverwinter Nights games, did you also try to play top-rated community modules?

Too many to list without knowing about your preferences, but you could start by checking out this thread or browse this list and see if anything strikes your fancy. If you want something really long and epic (lvl 1-40), the Aielund Saga is very popular. If you want a module focussed on good story-telling and a thrilling plot, you could try the Prophet series. All of these suggestions are for NWN - I don't know much about the NWN2 modules, sadly.
