As I took a Painkiller: Black Steam rose from the ground; I stepped towards it. Thud. I fell through the ground and landed on a shovel. Ow.
After regaining consciousness, I woke up staring at my initials; it turned out to just be the last two characters of a website printed on the shovel - Useless - I had no way to connect to the internet here. I continued to look around; I was in some kind of dungeon. I noticed a letter engraved into the floor; I ignored it, assuming that it wasn't of any importance. All I needed right now was a way out.
I brushed myself off and decided to continue walking forward. Instead of having a letter engraved in the floor though, these next two rooms I was in had numbers. I decided to change directions to see what was around the corner.
I turned into the new room, and lo and behold, I seemed to have found some kind of treasure!! Luckily I took that shovel with me. I started digging, and digging, and digging, and...nothing. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time, I guess there really wasn't any treasure in the room after all. Hmph.
Dejected, I slowly walked into another room, I didn't even pay attention to which direction I went. I continued walking in that same direction until I saw a room with a long line across the ground. I walked along the line and followed it into another room. I then turned the corner into yet another room, a room with my first initial engraved into the ground.
I continued walking. Shit! Have I been walking around in circles? I swear I've seen this exact symbol before. Hitting that shovel must've really messed with my head; those German shovels really are built solidly.
I frustratedly walked into another room, thankfully, I was sure I hadn't been here before. I continued on in the same direction, eventually landing me in a room with yet another line. I was contemplating the meaning of the lines, when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a wall nearby! I ran to it. At least now I knew that this dungeon had some kind of end point. The last thing I wanted was to be trapped in some kind of infinite dungeon!
I looked down at the etching on the ground, maybe this was a clue - it wasn't quite an arrow, but it did seem that one part of the symbol was pointing towards a doorway. I think it was supposed to be a letter or a number, but all I had on my mind was the thought of an arrow pointing towards an exit. So, I walked in the direction of this strange 'arrow' until I found a room with the first letter of my last name - that had to mean something, right?
Maybe it did, because the next room I walked into had a ladder reaching up towards the ceiling. This was it. I kissed the number that was written on the ground. A bad idea, but I was ecstatic that I had found my way out. I felt something on my hand while I was on all fours, it was a piece of paper. I spat out the dirt from my mouth and looked at what was written on it - it was a map, a map of this dungeon. A fat lot of good this will do now. I scrunched up the map and threw it away as I climbed up the ladder.
