Hey, what a coincidence. I BUMPed into a cyclist the other day. I saw in the rear view mirror that he wasn't moving after that, I hope he was OK.

Here's a picture of my bike, kitted out with the stuff I brought today in an attempt to maximise my chances of survival:

1.5L drink backpack thing
Seat post rear pannier[1][2], bag and drinks bottle
Frame bag, bottle holder and bottle, pump
Seat post bag[1]
Helmet!

[1] The pannier sits far higher than I expected so the bag is right under the seat. So I strapped the seat bag to the handlebars instead. Problem? :D
[2] which adds a lot of weight.

EDIT: By the way, if anyone knows of something I can attach to my bike which will hold my HTC Desire HD so I can record from that too, please let me know!

How much training are you going to be able to get in before the main event? Only that's a pretty demanding challenge even for someone who rides their bike quite a bit.

British English is English to us because calling it British English would be redundant. Same with American English for the Americans. Practically every English speaking country (even where it's not a first language) has their own dialect. No doubt they all call their own derivatives English and everything else, British English, American English and so forth.

Fun fact: American English is not officially adopted anywhere in the world. Not even the US, due to the fact that it would be unconstitutional for the US to have an official language.

Well I've been told you're not supposed to do much riding the week before the event, but I'm going to have to get some in and just rest on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

So I just went out for a ride with all the stuff I brought. Yeah.. my bike is much heavier with than pannier thing on it..

Also, I felt a bump as my trousers pulled the bike pump off and I rode over it. This happened several times until I got bored and put it in the pannier bag. I need to move it to the sprocket side.

What the guy down the pub told me was that the English were updating the language around the same time the Americans were. We found out that they were updating the language and out of sheer snobbery abandoned our efforts.

I still think we should return the ante up to 500 quit. Ant whoever Felicity Shagwell is, I will think of her the next time I will shag well. Awesome donation!

Unless it's really light, that thing under the handlebars has to go. The bike in the picture looks like it'd be painful to ride for a long distance. I might also suggest getting a set of mudguards, but you'll be sweating like hell anyway so dirty water is probably not much of a problem.

Hope you've got a set of basic tools and a napkin with you, too. Nothing more frustrating than a loose screw stopping your journey short or completing it with greasy fingers after resetting a thrown chain.

EDIT: Sorry, I was too busy playing the fussy mom to say good luck on your journey, please don't push yourself too hard or get yourself killed or anything.

I'm taking the rear pannier frame off as it is really heavy and moving that bag on the handlebars to the seat, which is where it should be anyway.
