keeveek: But OP is right in this case, IMO. Even if they had to censor the game in Germany, it shouldn't affect copies already sold.
Objection! Poland had boobs too!

Ubivis: Okay, but in most of the countries that got the US Version delivered ;)
I thought it was a US-only thing? What other countries were affected?

Maybe I should check my retail version, I never play it long enough to see the boobs, or then I have forgotten.

My UK version has boobs.

I am not 100% sure about that. Back in the days when the game became released in germany, I do remember a PC Gaming Magazine stating, that only the German Version is uncensored. No idea, if other European versions were based on the German one :)

Hey, how do you know that your version wasn't based on our version, huh?

Actually, I was only joking, but it's a British game, isn't it? So I guess our version is the original and uncensored one. Woo.

I dunno about that. Far Cry 1 was a German game, and the main retail version still ended up being censored here (unnecessarily, I might add).

And I can also add:
Crysis and Dead Island

Both German games, that are censored in here :)
(Second one was banned once, but Steam does not know that it has been taken from the list already)
Just for the record, my version is still uncensored.

Which, according to Number 14, here

shouldn't be possible.

I'm quite sure Dead Island was developed by a Polish company, but it was certainly published by a German publisher.

Dead Island wasn't banned. I think it had a brief stay on List B, then got moved back to List A.

Very odd. The censorship first struck me yesterday when I tried to use the furnace finisher and couldn't get it to work for some reason. Still doesn't work now. Didn't realise that the cuts were that extensive.

This was the fasted "censored kill" I could think up. My muscle memory is so bad, that I hardly made it there in the game. I will buy the new DLC eventually, then I will know fully what has been censored and what not.

Edit:

Have you checked if the UK version was censored retroactively. AFAIK, Steam doesn't switch licenses and registries (as they would need to change your UK version into the DE one) but they do apply censorship to a version afterwards (which is what publisher do sometimes).

Yes, you are right... List B is just the step before it gets banned and is not even allowed to be bought by adults. Good, that it got moved back to List A :)
I really don't see why they had to censor a posteriori, since even a court would not have ask that, but shouldn't the hatred be oriented toward Square Enix since they made and released the patch?

For what it's worth, these are the games whose uncensored versions are banned in Germany (on account of how they depict violence):

Condemned
Condemned 2
Dead Rising
Left 4 Dead 2
Manhunt
Manhunt 2
Scarface – The world is yours
Soldier of Fortune: Payback
Wolfenstein

As far as I know, the only other games who used to be on that list were the original 3 Mortal Kombats.

keeveek: Well, it's strange, but I've read an article in a magazine, that it's proven that games with 12+ and 16+ ratings are selling much better than 18+ games, especally shooters.

Also, don't try to say it doesn't have anything with your legislation, because you are the only country in Europe that gets censored games.
avatar
Export: I think that in the US, if a game has the highest certification, R or whatever, that most shops won't stock it. There could be something like that in Germany. The difference is that American censorship doesn't have much of a problem with violence at all (but show some cleavage on the cover and that shit's getting airbrushed!)
I'm not sure about most shops, but Walmart won't stock it, and they're big enough that the Recording industry always makes sure to have versions without the explicit label available. I would imagine that the games industry is similar.

Did you perhaps buy different versions, through different means? Jamyskis, didn't you mention something about "non-FSK" versions in your OP?
