Freelancer has to be one of the best games i have ever played, i had such an insane amount of fun in it, and besides all the fun it was allso a beautiful game.
Is there any chance at all of ever seeing this gem here on gog?, or is there anything hindering it from ever beeing here?
I think Microsoft owns the rights to the game. Not much chance of them signing up. Hope I'm wrong though. Maybe send them (Microsoft games) an email or start an online petition website for it.
Microsoft is gonna pay attention ot a On Line petition?
Keep up the jokes, they are great!
Played through that game at least ten times. Would love to see it on GOG along with other Microsoft-owed things.

True true, not sure what other advise you could give though. Offer sexual favors and sacrifice a goat to Microsoft Games? Maybe discover a cure for malaria and hold it ransom?

Actually contact MS and try to broker a deal with them? I'd first state by contacting GOG (not through the forums, but actually calling or writing them) and find out what their usual contracts entail informing them that you want to take it upon yourself to try and bring MS on board.

Keep in mind that the mektek guys were able to get MS to give up the Mechwarrior 4 license for free. It can be done, but you actually have to work at it not just say "Hey I want this!"

MS has released some of their old games to the community before, cut them some slack.

Freelancer was like 1.99 for a long time, they way overpressed the release. I'd be surprised if you'd spend very much getting it off eBay and since it ran on Win 2000 I'm sure it'll run on XP.

It totally runs on XP, that's the only system I've played it on.
Runs fine on Vista too.

They don't own this license, but they have an understanding with the people who do. You're new here, aren't you?

Sorry, I couldn't resist :)

Amazon has it for $4.49 for the jewel case version. No idea if they ship to Sweden, but that's a good price.

Actually, a whole bunch of cheap stuff from the same genre at Amazon. I should probably close that window before I spend a mint on the space-x games not found here.

I'd do a bit more research before you start to throw stones, if I were you. MS purchased "FASA Interactive" back in 1999 which included the license to the following games as well as the rights to release video games based on FASA's IP;

(note: some games were released after 1999, but as the studio was owned by MS at the time MS owned the rights to those games as well)

MechCommander
MechCommander 2
MechWarrior 4 Vengeance
MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries
Mechassault
Mechassault 2 - Lone Wolf
Crimson Skies - High Road to Revenge
Shadowrun (PC/Xbox 360)

In 2007

Microsoft licensed (note: licensed, not sold) the rights to produce video games based on FASA IP back to Smith & Tinker.

So to sum up, yes MS did and still does own the rights to Mechwarrior, and it was MS legal that was the hold up on the mektek release of MechWarrior 4.

I was just making a Freelancer joke... :) I didn't mean anything else with it
