Fight furiously, fight quickly, fight for free!

Warsow, a cyber-sport ready, ultra-fast paced FPS with sleek cel-shaded graphics and some innovative mechanics, is coming free to your shelf on GOG.com.

Cybersport is a relatively broad term, but the first things that come to mind when you hear it is: RTS and FPS games. While the first category is dominated by Blizzard's Starcraft series, the latter tends to be a lot more diverse. The multiplayer rivalry is very often the main focus for modern FPS designers, and the single-player campaigns often present nothing more than an extensive gameplay tutorial. In some games, victory relies on the ability to apply team tactics, but deathmatch games remain the pinnacle of virtual sportsmanship.

Warsow is such a game, but not an ordinary one. Seven years in the making, it's one of the most incredible community efforts, proving that games made by gamers for gamers can deliver unique qualities if their development isn't rushed and pushed by the forces of the market. Years of carefully polishing every aspect of the game paid off--Warsow has been accepted as a competition game by the Electronic Sports League and ClanBase. And now it comes to GOG, to impress you with its stylish minimalistic graphics, to amaze you with its ultra-fast gameplay, and to awaken within you the spirit of rivalry!

Grab your riotgun, pick up the pace, and join the manic shoot-out race in Warsow, free on GOG.com!
Wow! I'm amazed this came to GOG! I'm a longtime wsw player, since version .2 (back in 2005 maybe?) and it's awesome to see the game getting more exposure. For those concerned, yes, you can start your own private servers for friendly play. If you play on public servers, don't automatically assume people are cheating. There are some VERY good players that have been playing since the initial release. I remember losing -3 to 32 in my very first game.
That said, once you get used to the movement system and the excellent balance, it will be hard to go back to any other action FPS out there.
I hope to see you guys ingame! :D
Oh, here are some gameplay vids to get people pumped:

A high level game between Lo (a legendary player) and Jalapainyo (who's also quite decent). It's on an older version of wsw, so the graphics look a little uglier. This map has since been retextured to look pretty.

Sure, but the guy i played against beat everyone by a mile, and i managed to frag everyone else but him during the game. He took more damage than anyone else i fired at, and i didn't see him get killed once during the game.

It just made me highly suspicious. Sure you can dodge and be good at aiming, but if he's been shot that many times and is still not killed, that just seems like cheating.

Well, there's a good chance he was picking up armors, which do a lot to prolong your life. The only real cheat I've seen in wsw is an aimbot, and that tends to be very obvious as people using it stick to the plasmagun or laser weapons.
On the other hand, there have been many times where I've played FFA with new players, and I don't get killed once. (Unless I feel bad for them and avoid hp/armor.) Warsow is a game that rewards experience and skill, which is something that's hard to find nowadays.

That said, it may be possible that the individual you were playing was cheating. I'd have to see it to know for certain.
OH GOD YES WARSOW EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

*ahem* yeah, cool. warsow.
Thanks GOG team for Wasow; good to have free games every now and then.

Smannesman: I don't get it.. is GOG now just going to add freeware and perhaps even mods to the catalog? Oh well, pointless 'release' in my opinion but it doesn't hurt anybody.
I can't believe you're totally unaware of the new presence of Divinity II: Directors Cut, Bioforge, & Puddle just in the last 2 days. Along with several new prereleases and a heap of other games having been made available over the last month, along with numerous updates to existing packages. While this is only the second new freebie update added in about 6 months.

You sir seem to need a new prescription for your glasses.

Funnily enough, yesterday was the first time i'd ever played it. I finished in a mid table position every time. Which was great for a newbie.
Looks very cool, good, free releases are always welcome

And you sir need to see a neurologist, or perhaps some kind of English language professor. The emphasis in my sentence is not on "just" as in only.

The codebase is GPL (open source), and the assets are under something like the Creative Commons "non-commercial" license.

So how old this game really is?

GOG provides release date as of October 2012, while some here claim that they have played it since 2005?

I have no idea what October 8, 2012 refers to; that isn't the GOG release date, and anyway, "Release Date" is supposed to refer to when the game was first released (e.g. Ultima 4: September 16, 1985)
