lukaszthegreat: that's weird.
I would assume Metro sold pretty well. they are making sequel so i guess it brought enough money.
it was featured in every sale possible on steam tough. wonder what they are thinking.
Probably that the few choice people who haven't bought Metro yet but still plan on doing so won't produce any even remotely significant revenue in the grander scheme of things. I would assume Metro sold pretty well. they are making sequel so i guess it brought enough money.

However, giving it away for free (or almost free, depending on the sale) will bring in not only those few but a lot more who'll "just have a look. It's free/almost free after all...". Thereby (given the quality of the game) producing more paying customers for the sequel and ultimately more revenue and generally good publicity for their company.

SirPrimalform: Yeah, just managed to grab it and to my disappointment the installer file is just the type of thing you'd find on the disc of a Steamworks game.
SimonG: This is a highly immersive, excellent single player FPS. I am very glad that THQ was brave enough to sign such an unknown developer for a SP only FPS and gave them enough money and room to fully develop it into a great game. And I am very glad that thanks to the Humble Bundle over half a million new player will have the chance to experience this great game. If you get a game for free and still don't respect the developer and publisher enough to get past your own sensibilities you won't get my sympathies.
As I said, seeing a downloader just made me wonder whether it might be something I can back up. I'm allowed to be disappointed when the installer literally just runs steam.

With the Humble Bundle they probably made every cent they can with the game. Now its just promotion for the sequel.

Haven't finished it yet, but it's a good game. Not as good as S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though, but I guess that depends on whether you prefer linear, cinematic or open-world sandbox-type games.
I also recommend that you disable things like Motion Blur in the .ini, otherwise the game is - in my opinion - almost unplayable. That was the first game that actually gave me nausea.

Pirating is too complicated for me.
I tried pirating Overlord: Raising Hell once, since I couldn't find the damn add-on anywhere.
I had no clue what it was that I downloaded and couldn't get the thing to work. I gave up and decided to wait for a GOTY edition.
If Metro comes out on GOG you bet I'm getting it here.

What possible rationale could there be for forcing DRM on a game you're giving away for free? This is getting ridiculous...

The link now just redirects to your Facebook home page. A number of users are saying this, so it seems to be a change. There is a new page, though. Here is the link.

yeeessss.... because all the copies of the game are made without DRM, but a person sits there and attach it to every single copy they give away. It can get a little repetitive (it is copy-and-paste job, they tend to use wheat paste as it is very cost efficient). It is not well paid job, but it has a lot of perks (all the wheat paste you can eat, for example). They do this because they hate you.

I actually have a "condition" where it's easier(Mentally) for me to play through more linear/closed world games(More choices make me stress over what to do next[Or what to pick over other choices in the case of branching path games/choices.].), so I like Metro a bit better. That's not to say I don't like Stalker(Well beyond a few nitpicks like the way it runs slow/unoptimized if you turn everything to max...even on a decent Quad Core.)....I do.....just not as much as Metro. -----------------------------------

I don't get motion sickness/nausea from such things(Lucky me?), but I do dislike the jarring over-exaggerated blur most games with this effect have when it's turned on. I usually turn it off in most games as a result.
