A friend of mine on facebook recently got an update on his profile saying that he had been gifted a games from GoG (syndicate and Baldur's gate collection).

Looking over the site it seemed overall okay. I checked their forums and noticed they had a section where users posted what things they had gotten for free. There are many posts (possibly hundreds a day) going back to the earliest in 2010. So the site has been going for a while.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had used this.

I only ask because steam winter sale will start on Thursday and most of my money is tied up in saving for quite a few games on there. But looking over the sale here I'd really want to buy some of publisher packs. This site is a godsend if it can help.

P.S I thought sale times were meant to be times where you get things cheap? Then why is it I spend more than I usually do at these times xD

I've never used that site, and from the looks of things, it appears to be a website which is hosted on a free .webs.com subdomain with a link which redirects to a website called 'prizerebel.com'. I personally wouldn't trust it, but that's just me.

Looks like a kind of frontend for survey/PTC/etc. sites that gives you GOG codes instead of cash. Depending on your demographic profile and location, it may or may not work for you. You will definitely be working for less than minimum wage, so the word "free" is a misnomer.

I've used prizerebel back when I was in high school. It is a legitimate site, but it's basically what drennan said. You can get games for "free". You just need to spend a lot of time doing surveys and other things, so I wouldn't recommend joining the site.

I'm not sure about the "Like us on Facebook and Twitter" part though.

I'm not sure it's strictly speaking legal. It's a probable trademark violation on their part even if they do follow through on giving the games away.

I'm not sure what Mr. Gog's stance on it is, but using his mark to promote their site isn't likely to fall under fair use guidelines.

Someone signup and test see how long it takes to accumulate enough points to redeem a game :P

The issue is possible damage to their reputation and dilution of their trademark. I'm not an IP attorney, but I wouldn't be surprised if the site is forced to change things to make it clear that there isn't an affiliation with GOG or be taken down.

That of course assumes that they don't have a deal, I suppose they could. But trading on somebody else's reputation isn't something which fair use usually permits.

Geez, at least be consistent in your use of "GoG" or GOG, website. :P

Seriously it couldn't be anymore obvious if you claimed you were a Nigerian prince. Also while well designed that site reaks of hard sell.

Seriously you couldn't make that site look anymore spammier if you had it made by hormel foods. It is it's his referral site. It's a site he made that basically is there to get all excited about getting "free" whatever and then you click on the link which brings you to a different unrelated site which is not affiliated with the one you were previously at save for the referral link, you sign up and he sees a referral bonus. Sorta like what Direct TV's been doing where if you have a friend sign up for Direct TV they give you something, except he seems to be doing this in a very scummy and spamy way it happens sadly.
