GabiMoro: Somebody should tell xyem, Ian and Homer Simpson to cancel those weekly giveaways. Who the fuck needs them?
Are you serious?! That's like telling Santa Clause to cancel Christmas!

I don't know man, my sarcasm detector is on the fritz! :P

Kaldurenik: Well i guess you could add a new button for when someone create a thread. So we have poll, question, giveaway.
Then allow a filter in the account settings to hide giveaways or something :P
avatar
JudasIscariot: Still, while everyone's waiting, you could install the hide giveaways script that works on Chrome (tested it myself :P) as that would be much quicker :D.
Oh the thing is i dont care about the giveaway "spam" it was just meant as a general solution for the people that do think its a problem :)
Maybe Gog should add a marker similar to the "Q:" for questions, like "G:" for giveaway, when you create a thread. It would be easier to visually filter them, and they could also be marked as over.
This thread is Spam.

Telika: Well, kinda makes giveaways and general discussions mutually exclusive (as adding a gift to it hides the discussion to a portion of the forum population). But heck, people just love categories, epurations, polarisations, dichotomies. Gotta go with the general love for exclusions, clean worlds, and "either/or" solutions.
Well when you check the boards and most topics you actually do care about are burried beneath a bunch of giveaways, it doesn't exactly help making this a place you'd like to return to.
I'm probably the most guilty of the "hidden giveaway" thing, I gotta admit. It's just that I like making the headline for a thread something cool or weird or obscure. It's not meant to annoy. (Confuse? Maybe).

Telika: ...
Actually, I am much more likely to participate in a contest that doesn't contain any form of giveaway.

Lifthrasil: Hm. You might have a point there. Several threads of course generate more rep than one thread... I just never cared enough for rep that I would start to open many threads just for rep harvesting. Perhaps ne_zavarj is just desperately trying to get her fifth star, for whatever reason, and that's why she distributes her keys across many threads instead of making one.
You can't get more than 5 rep in one day, no matter how many + votes you get. So in ne-zavarj cared about rep, he would've done each one in a different day.

[sarcasm on]
If you read this tread than yes the OP and those against giveaway threads doesn't like Santa and Xmas any more :D Since the world revolve around them, and when they go sit the sun stops shining
[sarcasm off]

gooberking: Of course if we do reach a point where the main page is 100% giveaways then a hide script becomes useless, because it will just hide everything. .
avatar
cmdr_flashheart: Actually no, it will just push up any non-GA content from previous pages.
I think it was already pointed out, but the scripts just teach your browser to hide key lines from the final page, they can't control how GoG fetches data from their servers. So if the front page posts all really had giveaway in the title, we wouldn't see anything.

I concur with your observation

Fenixp: Well when you check the boards and most topics you actually do care about are burried beneath a bunch of giveaways,
Or buried under a thread title with the word "giveaway" in it, that is therefore not worth checking because it has the word "giveaway" in it, and maybe -horror- is accompanied with a giveaway inside.

Like contests or puzzles that are not worth it, because there is a prize and having to type "not in for the prize, but" before participating is such a devastating burn of energy.

Yeah, I don't really give a shit either. I mean, it's nice that people acknowledge you, but I mostly hold giveaways when I have the money (well, duh!). And that means many in one day near the the first of the month.
