Bapabooiee: You don't have to use the client to post in Steam groups or use any of Steam's Community features - you can just use your browser. It's no different than having to make an account to post on any other website/forii, so I think you're only saying that to be verbose about your dislike of Steam and/or DRM'd digital distribution platforms.
Licurg: Let me be more clear - I hate Steam. I hate everything about it, without any exception, and I'll never use it for anything. Clear enough ? :) As for that script mentioned above, does it work for Firefox?
I'm sometimes interested in the GOG giveaways, so hiding everything isn't ideal (hence why a subforum would be good, or some other method of easily hiding/showing them). Steam can burn in a dark hot pit where it belongs, and I've had nothing but problems with Desura. GOG, however, is the dog's bollocks. Just start supporting Linux games, mmkay? :)

PetrusOctavianus: Isn't it about time all the giveaways, Steam key threads and recent spam threads by ne_zavarj find their own sub forum?
Or at least make it possible to filter out threads based on keywords?
Allow me to point out the incredible generosity of the person you drove away from this forum; Or at least make it possible to filter out threads based on keywords?

You might want to consider personally apologizing and literally begging them to come back because of your ignorance and sheer hubris in your commentary - I know that I've already done so on your behalf but really what does my apology mean?

Ian: you know you really are narrow minded. Look at the bigger picture - ne_zavarj has spent his time recently cultivating relationships between developers and GOG. This may have resulted in YOU being able to buy a game, from a developer currently not on GOG, if indeed they do come here in the future.
Because he did it in the form of giveaways, and you are too lazy to install a script that ignores them - you are not telling me or ne_zavarj to fuck off, you are telling GOG. Not only are you saying that we "the community" should not help GOG explore other games/developers, you are also asking GOG to ignore any profit provided by the likes of me, who buy GOG games to give to the community.
Lifthrasil: Sorry, Ian. It seems you didn't read my follow up post and you are directing your indignation at the wrong person. I didn't tell ne_zavarj or anyone to fuck off. I really meant it as a thank you, because I read her sentence "I'm sorry . I will not create more threads on this forum." as an admission that she had overdone it a bit with the number of threads and that she would stop creating more, and instead bundle her giveaways in the existing ones. And I really thought that the problem with people complaining about too many giveaways was solved with that. And for that I thanked her. Because as much as I like giveaways, I can also understand that people who don't like giveaways are annoyed when one person opens many threads in a short time. Therefore I suggested as a compromise to stop making many threads in a short time and instead bundling the giveaways in one thread. I thought that would help, because I don't want giveaways to be banned to a separate forum. I wouldn't have thought that ne_zavarj would take an attempt at compromise as such an insult to cancel all her giveaways. I still think that that is quite an over-reaction, especially since she is punishing those with that action that didn't disagree with her making giveaways.
I am sorry if I contributed involuntarily to that over-reaction. But I am still convinced that making just one thread if you have many games to give away in a short time instead of making a dozen threads, would really help to increase the acceptance of giveaways with those not interested in them. (less simultaneous threads = less negative reaction)
Your response was snarky and contributed to making a person who is long time and contributing member of this forum decide to not longer participate here on GOG. Srsly, read what you posted - if you'd gotten this kind of response, how would you feel? Cared about? Welcomed? Lauded for all your hard work to get developers to donate games?
I think not. You'd probably feel angry and upset too.
So consider personally apologizing to ne_zavaraj instead of posting a missive about how you were really right and didn't mean anything by your comment. Personally I was hurt and offended by your comment and it wasn't even directed at me. The least you could do is seek out ne_zararj and explain the intent of your post - but that would mean finding them on Steam since they've left GOG in part because of your post.
Me, well I did go do that several days ago after I read this whole thread because I felt so badly for what was said in this thread and frankly I'm considering how frequently I participate due to the negative spirit of this whole commentary. I was under the impression that the GOG "General Forum" was for EVERYONE to post as they pleased not some dilettante forum.

Momo1991: I'd like to point out that each of those supposed "spam" posts was an individual game donated by a specific DEVELOPER in order to promote an INDIVIDUAL game. They weren't spam as far I am concerned - they were GAME related NEWS. And yes, the general forum is for everyone, also for people who complain that these place has become a mess and trying to find solutions to make it at some point back what it was - a gaming forum with mostly discussions about gog and games. Right now with all other off-topic threads (forum games, classified threads etc) there are maybe max 3-4 threads who a re really kind of gaming related on the first page. Someone said gog has now his off-topic forum, it just needs a on-topic gaming forum - I absolutely agree with this. It's funny how some are connected to the giveaways and fear they maybe were taken away and damn everyone who want to change something. Funny, but also scary.
Edit: And yes, I use this script, but it's not really a long-term solution.

Where did I said the general forum is a gaming-only forum? Where did I said I'm against giveaways in general? Where did I wrote everyone should do what I want, or should I maybe say also "we", because as you can see there are many others not happy with the current situation?
It's a repeat of what was already discussed in this thread, but just to clarify my position. I wrote the forum is a mess because discussions about gaming don't stand very long on the first page. I would also say there are less gaming discussions in general because of this. Yes, there are subforums, but like the general forum they're also not a perfect solution right now and why should people hide their discussions about gaming in general there while there is a general discussion board? I think it's a problem if people who are only interested in gaming discussions need to hunt down the few interesting threads in a gaming forum, because the system isn't working anymore and there is maybe a better solution. This is still a gaming forum, so where is the problem to find a solution to make it easier for everyone? Again, nobody! in this thread is against giveaways, "we" all want just a solution to follow the discussions "we" are interested in.
Like me you're maybe late to the party, but just read the thread to understand that folks here want an improvement of the forum structure to allow everyone to find easier what they desire. It's really less dramatical then most posts here may suggest.

I can see forum is drowning in low-rated topics and arguments (two of those on the very first page).
Why can't we agree that:
- People who don't want to see \ participate in giveaways use the script,
- Gifters put 'giveaway' in the topics of their threads. Or even better - 'giveaway' for 'I'm in' type of a giveaway and (for example 'challange' for those where participants have to do something more to enter \ win (should satisfy Telika).
Not because anybody forces us to, but because we're decent people and don't fight over small annoyances.

With mostly I meant the main focus of the forum, which doesn't exclude anything or means only one kind of topic. I explained that at the moment this main focus (gaming relevant threads) is very low and so not mostly, but that doesn't mean there are no other topics welcomed nor should it be gaming only.
The script is maybe a good workaround to minimize this problem, but it isn't a perfect solution. You need to install and configure it in your browser (problematic if you want to check the forum for another place like your office) and I don't believe there is a solution for the internet explorer so far. It would better to have that option in the forum software or, what I more prefer, make another subforum just for general gaming. Btw, I find it a little bit bizarre that you need to install an addon and script get some gaming-relevant threads in a gaming forum.
Edit: And like Novotnus said, downvoting isn't really helping the discussion in any place.
