SimonG: How about the one we are in?
Oh. I thought this was asking for an ignore function, didn't see any bitching. See where you're coming from, though.

I quote:

"For various reasons, there are one or two constant posters that would make this site much more enjoyable if I never saw what they contributed."

"This is an internet forum with a large user base, growing every day. Idiots or obnoxious people are very often a part of such communities. The "ignore" or "block" functions are a standard feature of most forum systems, and for good reason. "

"There are SO many users I would love to ignore. I can name off at least twenty people who make so much as glancing on this forum hell, much less actually participating. Unfortunately, several of them have high levels of reputation points and the unwarranted self-importance that often accompanies that, so simply pretending they aren't there is about as easy as reading the comments of a Gamespot article without seeing the endless commentary from Gelugon_baat. "

"Or maybe, having been here long enough to see the 100th game added to the catalogue, I'm just cranky. Damn kids - not on my lawn - but in my favourite park with my favourite bench. I could just find another bench, I guess. "

Yep, absolutely no bitchin' in this thread.

General facetiousness, still rational.

Rational; a little exaggeration but still within the boundaries of reason.

Alright this one is bitching. Didn't spot that one, good eyes.

Not bitching, taking it on the chin; hypothetical, questioning the self. I express my willingness to move on if I'm wrong. I always accept and embrace defeat.

I would love to eleborate on this, but I can't find "bitchin'" in my dictionary ;-P
You know, since we're on the subject, I'm going to go ahead and say that I think the idea that the GOG forum is all classy and stuff is a total myth and fabrication.

And I'd probably use an ignore feature against different users for various petty reasons, though I wonder how well it would handle quotes. Plus I'd have to be logged in for it to work.

I'm with SimonG on this one, you could interpret "Bitchin'" in several ways...
Anyway ... It might be personal, but I can't bring myself to ignore people for petty reasons...

Heck, if the function existed, I won't even Ignore FraderPerdurabo even though I can't understand half of his posts (I'm not very smart :S), and the other half is plain offensive or rude. (Never rude to me though). I'd use the ignore function in case of a massive Spam, publicity / or really offensive/ degrading posts or photos, but never directly, it must be a repetitive thing for me to ignore the poster.

The thing is I tend to automatically ignore posts that I deem unpleasant, stupid, etc... I'm not dependant of a feature that would do it for me.
I wouldn't even ignore XmXFLUXmX.

Yeah, what's the deal with him ? Why do a lot of people dislike him ??

He is one of the very select few that I would instaban on my newfound powertrip as moderator... ahem... I mean maybe ignore ...

He just holds, or pretends to hold, very unpopular political views. The way he presents them is aggressive. You can search his name and do some reading, I'm sure you'd be up to speed in no time at all.
Thanks for the fast response man ^^
Gonna do my research :p

It's not that, it's the fact that that's the only thing he does. He's never contributed positively to a discussion, he just starts his own yelling about liberals every five minutes.

The stupidity is not within his comments, it's the fact that it's here. Even "my opponents" (do I have opponents? I'm not sure, don't think Vestin's too fond of me) I think can agree that if your only job is to come to GOG.com and spout venom about the left or right, you're just a disruptive, very rude and asinine person.

Of course, Flux can say and believe what he wants to, it's just idiotic that he thinks this is the place for that kind of thing. If his views are real and he's not a troll, then I just pity him for thinking this is the appropriate arena. He could make some real drama on reddit or he could run his own blog. Maybe he might even go hang out with the Phelpses or something. Anything is better than here.
Hmm... I don't know, I haven't personally gotten into arguments with Flux personally, but I think it's fair to say that GOG is tilted heavily in the liberal direction, and it shows with most of our discussion concerning current events. There are plenty of opportunities to call it out, and Flux does so in a way that makes the blood of the majority here boil. But I agree there are times when it is not warranted, and it's always done in a less than effective way from what I've seen.

N0x0ss: Sorry, but if you wanna critisize someone, please do read his posts before doing so.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. However, I won't shy away from constructive criticism where I feel it is due.

I'm assuming that you count the "SimonG posts a problem" and "SimonG hosts a competition" to be separate arguments, but I don't agree. I see them as examples that support your original argument, and I don't think they stand as arguments on their own.

I'd write more on this to explain myself further, but I've got to eat before the cafeteria downstairs closes. Maybe when I get back. :)

By the way - I don't have anything against you. You seem like a nice guy, but I don't agree with your arguments and wanted to explain why.

TheJoe: 'snip
There is a reason why I don't bother replying (much) to his comments To quote Thomas Paine:

“Attempting to debate with a person who has abandoned reason is like giving medicine to the dead.”

A waste of time for all involved, and he doesn't seem to take the time to consider what people are saying to him. He is so locked up and blinded by the right verses left rift that he can't see the shades of gray in between. He doesn't understand that humans and philosophy is not black and white. People on both sides can concede that the other side does have a point.

Flux does have the right to his opinion, but he is clearly not here to debate and learn, he is only interested in preaching to the choir. From what I've read of his posts, he seems almost militaristic with his views thinking "liberals" are purely the enemy and not actual human beings who can bring valid points to a debate.
