Okay, so the forum really annoys me because it lacks a lot of things that nearly every other piece of forum software in existence has. So I'm going to compile a list of these things, with links to their respective wishlist items and I would really appreciate people voting for the ones they want.

Also, please send me any of your own suggestions or wishlist items related to the forum and I will add them here too.

what about
- "goto first unread' button on threads
- filter threads by category type 'Discussions', 'Question / Problems', 'Comments', 'Announcements' + "News" (official GOG news posts)
a few times ive just wanted to search for a "News" topic i read a while back and im sifting 7-8+ pages in just for the topic thread.
(i dont have 100+ threads open at once my speeds are slow enough as is >_<)

thx for the bonus one to vote for xyem
^_^

ErekoseDM: what about "goto first unread' button on threads
Good one. Found an existing wishlist for it and added it to the list.

Add "Go to first unread post" button
Can I add this?

Sure, added (and voted).
I'll take the opportunity to 'advertise' this old "Spoiler tags at the forum" request, as a more specific BBCode feature.

Added to the OP.
How about a classic mode that's made with tables and has embedded midi music?
Great list, xyem, thanks for collecting the links! Voted for some of them, though I personally think that the forum is one of the less messy parts of this site (hi there, community wishlist...).

Yeah, it definitely is less messy but it irks me because there is software out there (like phpBB) that they could simply modify to use their CMS when needed (logins, for example). However, they are probably at the point where they are suffering from Sunken Cost Bias.

I want more strippers.

And get some different coffee. This crap sucks.
Voted most of them.
A working search function would be a major improvement. This includes functionality to list only posts that contain _all_ target words, and functionality to specify a time frame of the posts.

Very useful: I voted almost all of these. +REP xyem, you don't have enough.

By the way, I would like the "generic" section to be far less generic: some subsections would be a great addition.

I would prefer a better message centre with a greater sense of permanence. So it works like the PM system does. You can respond directly to all replies and only replying or closing the message will remove it from the message centre. This would also be good for the times you get multiple replies in the same thread - as the current system will only make you aware of the fact that there is at lest one in that thread. Then you have to go looking for it.
