Take it up with your bank. There are no FTF credit cards out there for you to switch to. Are you really complaining about a few pennies. The largest FTF I ever received was $2 and that was on a rather large $70 purchase. I get charged more sales tax in the grocery store than I spent on those. Mostly my FTF's are under a quarter, I've lost more change than that in my couch.

Glad there is a warning now but it could be a little more obvious as I still didn't realise today (unless this warning has now been removes), I was happily buying a few games from the UK with a Natwest debit card a few months ago and due to the delay before the Visa transactions went through I was not aware of any charges being added on and I got hit with a few surprise charges - £1 per transaction for fees adds up pretty quickly.

Paypal may add a slight amount to their conversion rate but it is tiny compared to what I was paying.

I love how your entire rant in this thread has been about not knowing that GOG isn't a US site, because you couldn't be bothered to do some basic research, but you're advising me to do so before posting.

I've read this discussion a little, but don't have time to read every post entirely, so this might have been mentioned already. I found this thread looking for information on these fees.

While I agree that it would be courteous to provide a message informing of the possibility, the responsibility to let you know falls to your financial institution as they're the entity who actually assesses those fees. When you pay with PayPal, you'll get a confirmation email from PayPal and those emails do make mention of possible international transaction fees that may be assessed. If you feel like your financial service provider is not forthcoming enough with said information, I would follow-up with them and ask to be given notification any time these fees are assessed.

I can tell you with some certainty that if you use PayPal in the US, simply take your total and multiply by 1.0084, then take the resulting number at just the first two decimal places neither rounding up nor down. This will ballpark your total within a few cents if not dead on the money. Bear in mind, I notoriously only make small transactions when games go on sale, so this figure might not be accurate at higher dollar amounts.

For what it's worth, I thoroughly appreciate the fact that GOG isn't a US company. The business atmosphere here in the US is crooked as hell. A stellar idea like this would never get off the ground in the United States of Fear and Greed.
