nondeplumage: The original Mobile Suit Gundam series:
http://www.youtube.com/show?p=AixyDrpSv9s
And its sequel, Mobile Suit Z Gundam:
http://www.youtube.com/show?p=z8JGMtVOWcw
I grew up on Mechwarrior, but heard all the time about people putting together Gundam models with complicated names and versions and levels; it all seemed silly to me so I never bothered to learn much about it all, but getting to watch the start of this series, it's actually pretty cool. Cheesy 80s of course, but what the hell, cheesy never stopped me from liking half the games here. =D
Was this made after gundam wing, whats the order http://www.youtube.com/show?p=AixyDrpSv9s

Wing and Seed are both completely separate form each other and the original MSG. They are not part of the same universe. They were made much later.

MSG and Zeta are in the same universe (the "original one" ), Wing is in it's own and Seed and it's sequel in another one.
For the full detail you can look here :

All the ones with the "MSG date" as "U.C. something" are in the same universe than MSG and Zeta, all the others are in others universes.

Not available in my country. Stupid overpriced English anime.... Macross Frontier is a pretty good series and technologically impressive as is the OVA (4 part mini series) Macross Plus which is awesome and my most recommended of the Macross's. I've seen all the originals too but the awful American cartoon style really put me off.
Gasaraki is meant to be a pretty unique and interesting one too and I really enjoyed Blue Gender though it never reviewed all that well (it was my first anime.) Then of course there's Neon Genesis Evangelion and if you haven't seen the 2 new rebirth reboot films I really recommend them, they really take the series to a whole new level, especially 2.22

Seeing as this thread is alive again...
I finished Mobile Suit Gundam and am going through Zeta Gundam now.
MSG is a good introduction to the series, though the animation quality isn't the best. I really started to notice the recycled scenes. This can be explained by a low animation budget, as according to Wikipedia Gundam wasn't that popular when it first came out. Zeta has a higher quality so far, but you should watch MSG first to get all the references.
The only snag with Zeta on YouTube so far is that with episode Episode 11, the "uploader has not made this video available in your country." Yes, seriously. Out of all the videos in the playlist, only one doesn't work. I had to watch that episode on some other portal where the video had poorer quality, it was subbed instead of dubbed, and it may or may not have been sanctioned by the show's studio.
Also, while we're talking about giant robots on YouTube: Gurren Lagann ;)
Edit: Don't watch until you've finished MSG.
