I am so glad I started this thread. It confirms in me that we have the most mature, intelligent gamers/posters coming to these forums! I do not see anywhere else (on the web) that would get anything like the insightful content this thread has!
Also, some good ideas have come up with regard the rep and post scoring system, so I hope the moderators are reading!
Also, this thread has taken me from -4 to -1, so you guys have almost turned me into a good guy! LOL!

antibonk: Ahh. Gotcha. Pretty sure you can disable it from doing that though. There is a checkbox down by the search/new post button that lets you enable/disable that.

I've tried using it, it doesn't work.
EDIT:
I did try using it, it DOES not work. it still hides posts. I've sent in a ticket to support, and I've gotten nothing back. I don't understand a reason for -1'ing me, other than somebody is jealous that I've helped people. If you want a higher reputation, you go out and help people. I'm not some kind of snarky Rep hog either, there are a number of people on the Fallout boards (majority of place where I fix issues) who get rep for answering questions left and right.

Yeah, like I said before I'm glad you made it, I wanted to make one myself, but I know if I did, people would -1 me w/o end. not like they don't do it anyway.

Weclock - even if your wrong and it does work, I don't think you deserve a -1, so will give you a +1 to cancel it. Maybe, until such time as GOG changes the system, if we see an unfair -1 maybe we can give a +1 and say so for no other reason than to undo a wrong! :)

Very odd. Works for me on firefox 3. Wondering if you need to have cookies enabled for it work? Could always try that, or clearing your browsing cache I suppose.

Well, I use both IE7 and Firefox 3 to browse this website (ie at work ff at home). I know both browsers accept cookies, and I know that I have them both set to not hide, but some threads where I have been minused a great degree (-7 or -8) it still shows up as being hidden, even if i check to unhide it and go back.
EDIT:
somebody is being a tard.

Strange. I am wondering if it still auto-hide if the post has a high negative rating then, even with that setting un-checked. Maybe someone from GoG could post in here to clarify how this works.

I've been doing that for awhile now. :)
Could whoever gave me a -1 explain why the statement below in the post concerned upset him?
"antibonk: Very useful info +1 for you! :)"
Thank you.

UK_John: As someone with a current -4 rep, who has never been rude or sworn or flamed anybody, I was wondering what people thought of the Rep system? We probably know what the people with the top Reps think, but I want to hear from the rest of us.
I am not even too sure what the Reputation system is meant for? Sure, you might get a plus for being helpful, which is what it may be designed for, but you might also get a plus because someone just agrees with you.
Equally, you may get a minus Rep for being rude or flaming or trolling, but equally, you may get one because someone just disagrees with you.
If you are middle of the road, never offend, maybe even be a little bit of a boot licker, that probably raises your chances of a high rep.
Be a little forthright, stand your ground, tell the truth when no one wants to hear it and maybe you stand a good chance of having a minus Rep.
Maybe worse of all is having a zero Rep, making you feel invisible.
Overall then, I am of the view that the Rep system doesn't really mean anything, whether positive or negative.
I certainly am proud of my minus 4 Rep, as I feel it means I have made people think, maybe take part in a more meaningful way than they otherwise would.
So given how I feel about my minus 4, i'd love to hear your thoughts on your Rep score, or the Rep system as a whole. If you know what it's actually there for and the point of it, please let me know that too!

yeah I don't like a rep system either. It seems juvenile to me and something cruel people will abuse.

+1 you to counteract idiocy.
I have a number of alternate accounts and I have half a mind to go around and break this rep system all by myself.

When you give a negative rating to any post, this post will be hidden / minimized from you and only from you. But If the post will accumulate more negative votes from different users, it will be hidden "globally". Of course you can always unhide any post manually.
If you don't like the idea of other users hiding some posts from you with their negative votes, you can turn that off using mentioned "hide all posts with negative rating" option. This will unhide all posts that were automatically hidden.
(As you can see the option's name is pretty unfortunate and causes confusion here - we'll rename that in one of the future updates so it will be clear that if affects posts that were hidden due to negative votes from others. That's important, as your negative vote always overwrites the "hide all posts with negative rating" option, so if you have given a minus rating to some post, this post will always stay hidden. We'll probably change that to work both ways, so positive vote will unhide for you a post that was "globally hidden").

You aren't kidding, I've seen negative ratings on some of your posts for absolutely no reason at all.
Been +1'ing posts to counteract this, as I do not believe that random negatives will get us anywhere.
A few more notes on the topic:
First and foremost, thank you for all the feedback :).
As our design and dev teams are working hard on some future updates and improvements to the forums and website (surprise, surprise ;), we're looking closely into all parts of it, including the rep & rating systems, to see what could use some fine tuning :). We've seen some interesting ideas in this topic as well as in your emails and it's one of the things that we'll be discussing in our design meetings in the upcoming week.
Now, as with any other system, there's always a possibility that someone will try to abuse it and it's out job to monitor and prevent that. If we'll find users using fake accounts or cheating the system in any other way we'll take appropriate actions.
