I can assure you that we've read the whole topic, no worries :)
PS: We do not post as much as we'd like to, as devs or designers are browsing the forums mostly outside of everyday responsibilities and currently the whole team is working on lots of stuff, but still we read all the feedback / wishes / ideas and take it into account when working on future updates.

Bloodcell's post above is +5 and I do not get a option to give a plus or minus. Is that a maximum for any post - or Bloodcell, do you know an option in Your Account that we don't?! :)

Seriously: We'll see how it turns out, and what's GoG team going to do with it. In the meantime, I'll have a lot of fun watching this discussion :D

First and foremost, thank you for all the feedback :).
As our design and dev teams are working hard on some future updates and improvements to the forums and website (surprise, surprise ;), we're looking closely into all parts of it, including the rep & rating systems, to see what could use some fine tuning :). We've seen some interesting ideas in this topic as well as in your emails and it's one of the things that we'll be discussing in our design meetings in the upcoming week.
Now, as with any other system, there's always a possibility that someone will try to abuse it and it's out job to monitor and prevent that. If we'll find users using fake accounts or cheating the system in any other way we'll take appropriate actions.

I contacted gog about this during closed Beta and wondered about it then with the negative rating ability.
A simple solution would be to Change the Negative Button to a "Hide this Post" button.
Leave the Positive Button as is; that way users could only give positive "Thumbs-Up" to other users while still being able to hide a post if they wish.

Or how about removing it altogether so it would stop the anally retentives from worring over meaningless stuff? That way people could use a forum without fear of being made into a troll just because people don't see your viewpoint.
It would be rather boring if someone said "Ain't it cool that we're in world wide recession" and no-one dared to oppose the view just because they were scared of a - score!
Get rid of it, you don't need it to discuss stuff on a forum.

Weclock - you must be the expert, because you got a-1 for daring to say 'don't forget SinChronciles' (I think that was the title!). I don;t think I have got a -1 or even a +1 for something so innocuous!

Like I always say, I happen to draw attention to myself in any community no matter how inconspicuous I attempt to be. People have this strange and innate feeling of jealousy. I suppose it must be what it's like to be a celebrity. I don't go out of my way to offend people, in most situations I love seeing people happy, and I also love to play devils advocate... But anyway, I do think I know a deal about this reputation system, I've watched it and I've documented some things.

Things to Not Change In The Reputation System;
OR How I got my High Rep!
When a user creates a thread that they mark as a problem, and they have a question that can be SOLVED, a different user will post an Answer and when the OP marks that persons response as the solution, the answering user will get +3 reputation (not +3 to their post, but to their actual rep count below their username on the left hand side there).

you retard, that is how it works and that is how I got my high rep, I didn't get it by people hitting +1.

5. What is this “rep” thing on the forums?
Rep is the user's reputation rating, showing how respected and well-known you are in the community. You can quickly estimate a user's rep by looking at the number of stars next to their rep value. Getting one or two stars is fairly easy, while five stars is a serious achievement. Those who earn maximum reputation can expect some kind of nice bonus (surprise, surprise! :). There is a number of ways you can earn and improve your rep, including actively spending time on the GOG.com forums (no, that doesn't include spamming), receiving lots of positive ratings for your posts or simply helping other users (this can earn you lots of rep!). On the other hand, ignoring posting guidelines and rules is a simple way to lose tons of rep points (depending on how severe the violation was). Also, getting lots of negative feedback in a short time will cost you some rep points.
