The story is broken into two movies. Since Battle of the Five Armies is towards the end of the book, it won't appear in this first movie.

Ahhh, the old internet mind tricks. Good thing i'm way over that and that I will now ignore what you wrote because there's just no point "discussing" with you.

Navagon> yeah, you put the finger on something here. But from another point of view, PJ can't make The Hobbit all cartoony, since it's in the same universe than the LotR. He has to keep a certain coherence, visually speaking. Let's hope the tone on the movie will be distinct.

Also if you think this is trolling then you either don't know what real trolling is or know the difference but use the term anyways as a weasel tactic in conversations. I hope for your sake it's the former.

CaptainGyro: Jersey Girl was just about people working in a velveeta factory, cause all I saw was a bunch of processed cheese.

I'm not a huge fan of the LotR trilogy either, but after Jersey Girl , Kevin Smith doesn't get the right to make fun of movies.

GameRager: Never saw Jersey Girl either. I did think that line was spot on in regards to the LOTR films though.

As I said though I didn't hate the films. I just don't think they deserve the praise everyone gives them to such an extent. I liked the animated films more. It's a shame the books were never finished in that regard.
Ahhhh the Ralph Bashki ( think I spelt it right ) Gollum was sublime ... I still watch it from time to time , shame they were never finished tho :(

Apparently Frodo and Thorin joined the same weight-loss program. As I remember the books (only read 'em three times, the Hobbit maybe five or six) Frodo's fat and blond. Oh, and Thorin was supposed to be a dwarf, not an elf with a Gro-Gain habit.

Yes, making it a problem for this movie. Plus the idea of breaking it into two isnt so hot. That rarley works. And since Jackson has caught the Tolkien disease of being unable to actually end a story it does not bode well for filler time. But, I am still hopeful as I did love the extended versions of LoTR.

How is it a problem for this movie? You're getting the first half of the story. Or is it your contention that the only good part of the story is the battle of five armies? I don't understand your point here.

As for splitting the story into two movies, I actually like the idea. This gives a total overall running time that's much greater than a single movie alone, which means less of the story has to be cut. I'd rather have a story in several installments if it means there isn't a whole lot of material cut.

Point is, its the part I wish most to see on film. The rest of the story will have a hard time competing with my younger imagination.

Nice to see that Ian Holm got a job. Times are tough even for veteran Royal Shakespeare Company actors. Maybe David Warner can send a few VO jobs his way.

Taleroth: I took it less as Kevin Smith making fun of movies and more Kevin Smith making fun of fanboys. Which makes people parroting the statements hilarious. They are the people Smith was warning us about.

on a non cynical note, I don't think the merkwood parts will even be in this first film. the trailer seems like it's only going to go up to just after the goblin caves.

I predict an ending involving 5 minute slow motion cut of an eagle.

*edit* found a better video, and Bilbo is totally being played by Tim from the UK version of "The Office".
