xa_chan: Ah but I wait the triolgy once a year, on Bluray, in a 13 hours-long marathon, with friends, on a frackinly good home theater. ^_^
Me too, with my brother ;) And we seriously need to think about investing in projector for watching movies that awesome.

I will buy someday the new LOTR collection, with even more additional material than before.

I was replying mostly for the "meh" part. Animated movies were good, of course. But not "Peter Jackson awesomeness" good.

I love The Hobbit. But to be perfectly honest, spending $500 million on four hours of a bunch of dwarves walking around in a bloody forest feels so thoroughly immoral to me I'll probably skip this just out of principle.

The LOTR trilogy, as Clerks 2 put it succinctly, was just three films of walking...and walking trees.

Ohhh, yeah, believe me, the projector is a must have for a LOTR marathon if you have a room large enough and a screen big enough! We tried it (alas with DVD versions because the BD weren't released yet) and it is awesome.

Yup, animated movies were good, I also have them and I cherish them. But I can't see anything topping Peter Jackson's versions. EVER.

And Clerks 2 movie was about some douchebags talking bullshit about bullshit. :)

Reducing the Hobbit to the part where they are in Mirkwood forest makes as much sense as saying that Avater is after all a movie after Smurfs... ^^

Clerks 2 was awesome.....also more animated goodness:

Wearer of the Ring
The only thing I didn't like about the animated version was that it wasn't finished - gets half-way through as I recall.

Peter Jackson version was great IMO (especially when watching the extended versions that put back in a lot that I complained wasn't in the cinema version). I thought it captured the feel of the books well. A difficult job to bring that much book into even 3 movies.

Looking forward to the Hobbit.

Oh okay, there are some mountains, too. I've read the book at least half a dozen times, I know the plot.

For me, movies were even better from the books. Jackson focused more on things that I like in fantasy. Of course, there were some differences, some of them were stupid, some of them were amazing, like the scene when Aragorn arrives to the realm of Theoden, and the pennon falls to the ground, symbolising the falling realm. Great scene.

In this case, Passion of the Christ is also about walking. Walking onto the mountain.

Weak trolls should be perished.
