Yea, they are rushing the numbers forward... that fast! 5 and 6 aren't out yet, and they have a nightly build of 7. I installed it, didn't notice anything different than 6.0a1, which was last build like yesterday.

Makes me wonder, is there a competition or something betwen Mozilla and Google on who will release version 100000 faster?

I want to use the browser together with my main, IE9, but the bad font rendering is killing the experience.

They're ditching the big release cycle, fewer improvements/changes between major version. You probably won't see a lot of minor version builds anymore, bugfix version maybe.

I think this will send the Ubuntu guys into fits, no longer can they lock a LTS version of Ubuntu to the same major/minor version of FF for the entire 5 years.

Did they fix the memory hog problem?

If by "fix" you mean made it even bigger, then yes.

Wow! "Yesterday" I read somewhere about Firefox beta for the 3 or 4 version... Last time I used this browser, was 2 or 3 years ago.

Well, Opera and Internet Explorer are the oldest alive, so for them I guess this is justified. :D

As opposed to this current (dumb) arms race of version numbers, what is the lowest version number on a modern, up to date browser? I use Seamonkey, and we're patiently waiting for the ticker to roll over from 2.0 to 2.1.

So, [jokingly ofc], FF is trying to keep up with the competition, and apparently so does Chrome.
Can't wait for Activision to adapt this. 7 Modern Warefares in 2011. A lethal dose of more of the same.

Still using version 3 of FF. I'm not sure if upgrading to 4 is worth it and now I hear 7?

I'd stick with 3. Upgraded to 4 on one of my machines and I don't particularly like it, although once I get used to it, I'll probably have a better opinion. Couple things that annoyed me:

FF3, when you right click a link and the option menu pops up, Open In New Tab is the second one from the top, with Open In New Window as the top option. In FF4, it's reversed. Due to muscle memory, I'm constantly opening crap in new windows when I want it in a tab. Drives me nuts.

As well, be warned that if you 'upgrade' to FF4 the default is to not keep your tabs when you shut down the browser. I'm prone to opening a ton of tabs and saving them for next time I fire up the machine. When I installed FF4, that wasn't the default behavior, and out of instinct I just shut the browser down and clicked on the Shut Down button when it warned me I was closing multiple tabs. Of course, since it doesn't default to saving them, I lost my dozen or so tabs I had opened. I was a grumpy panda.
