I love Firefly for about a 5 years now. Easily the best space show ever made.
With that said...I watched Buffy all 7 seasons two months ago (for a first time) and I might just love it even more than Firefly! I was prejudiced towards it for very long time, but I don't regret giving it a change in the slightest. Whedon is a freaking genius.
Although Dollhouse was weaker.It had interesting themes, but overall...meh.
I don't want to say I am glad it got cancelled..but I am, because at least Joss can move to some other better things.

Buffy!? As in 'Buffy: The Vampire Slayer'? The very show where first season I was actually watching recently seemed so damn clichéd and silly that I just couldn't watch more than 3 parts? ... You mean it gets better?

My girlfriend forced me to watch buffy (all 7 seasons) and angel (all.. 5, I believe). And the first season of buffy is TERRIBLE. Exactly as you described: clichéd and silly. However, it does get better later on. I think that, should you want to give the series another try, you should just skip to the second season or something. It's more bearable. I actually quite enjoyed it.

Yeah, first season is by far the worst and I totally understand why it has such a low rating on csfd.cz and why so many people badmouth it.
But by the end of second season I had to go to csfd.cz and give it 5 stars...
And by the end of season 7 I was fucking sad it was going to be over soon. And now two months later and I still think about it.
I do not want to overhype it or anything, but some episodes of this show are some of the best things I've ever seen on TV.

I noticed yesterday that the entire second season (but only the 2nd season) of Buffy is available on Hulu. I personally couldn't stand the show, but just passing along info.

You know, that movie is actually one of my favorites...
It was never meant to be serious, it was just a spoof of the entire vampire/highschooler-with-a-destiny genre. Similar to how Shaun of the Dead is a spoof of zombie flicks (or more precisely Dawn of the Dead). Sure, They have different types of humor, but the premise is still the same.
I remember a funny moment when I was rooming with a guy that simply loved Buffy (the series) He made my watch it one night. I shrugged and told him I was disappointed, because I had hoped it would be funny like the movie; to me the series was just a silly show that took itself WAY too seriously. I think he just stared at me mouth slightly agape for about 5 minutes.

It is not really a pilot film though. It has nothing to do with Joss Whedon and he distanced himself from it.The show is infinitely better.

I still can't digest 'better' and any reference to 'buffy' in a one sentence. I shall see...
Anyway, started watching Firefly again. Kaylee is as cute as ever, CGI looks shiny, captain's funny... therefore, it's as good as it was the last time. Gotta love Firefly...
