I am a sad, sad panda. After a couple hundred purchases on Amazon, I finally got a screwy purchase. So, I am a big fan of Microsoft FSX, and I was ready to try out an add-on called Air Hauler which adds a new dimension to the game. So I look up the digital download from Just Flight and it is $37.99...for some reason the digital download is like normal more expensive than buying the boxed version, but whatever...that always pisses me off and always will.

So I then check Amazon, yay...$26.99 for the disc version...whatever...not sure why Just Flight cannot make their "digital" version cheaper...so I order it. It arrives today. heck, it has one of those older 1 inch cases, a nice outside label, and a nice 80+ page manual...so sweet...that is awesome. Also, everything is in English...so yay...this is going to be great.

Funny thing, I put the disc in my DVD player and guess what, I notice that it is labeled airhauler_de on the label....grrr...I already get a sneaky suspicion. I then go with the installation, well that is all in English, so I am a like, ok false alarm...

NOPE, start the game and the whole game is in German...WTF? During installation, it even asks me what language...but nope...it really wants me to play in German. Sadly, why my father-in-law is German, and my wife was born in Germany...there is no German spoken in this household so...I am curious how the heck did this disc end up being sold through Amazon(and the retail amazon, not from the used/other section), it is not in English...

Well, I now will try and fiddle with it but I can not find any options to change the language=( Well, I guess I need to search there forums and scour the internet to see if I can find an easy way to change the language.
Can't help I'm afraid, but perhaps the amount of tax they owe in the UK may have something to do with it?!

Edit: perhaps there is a moddabkle way to change the language (dft I know, but maybe worht a look?!).

Yeah, I am looking more into it. Well, Amazon is sending me another version already, but if it comes from the same batch it also most likely the german version which also gets patched differently than the us/eu version....I did throw the last patch on top of this one which now makes it in English...but...and this is a big but....it will most likely have issues since it was for the us version. Or maybe I am just confused=) But the game is definitely in German after telling it to install in English=S

Did you buy directly from Amazon or from the Amazon "Marketplace"? Amazon provides very good customer service regardless. If it is the wrong language, I'm sure that you'll be able to get a proper refund.

If there is any way to change the language, it's probably "Optionen" - "Sprache" - "Eenglish"

Directly from Amazon=) They are already sending another copy...although I have a feeling it will be from the same batch.

I used the US service pack to get English now, but...it is not meant for the German version. I checked the disc, not a good sign with the manual on the disc being the German version, and a folder labeled De. So somehow, the German discs got put into the US retail versions...crazy.

I will pray that the one that will arrive in 2-3 days will not have the incorrect disc...maybe...maybe=(

lol...the packaging says made in Great Britain....even better=P

So I order from a US store, get a game that should be from UK, and the disc is German. That actually gives me a good laugh.

Then there shouldn't be too much of a problem. In my experience Amazon's support across the board is pretty good. My current annoyance with them comes from how they handle some pre-orders here. When you pre-order, you shouldn't have to wait longer than someone who buys on the day of release >_<

Some orders made from the US site can be shipped from the EU. Likewise those made from the UK site can be shipped from elsewhere too. I've had that happen with a few Amazon (not marketplace) purchases.

Amazon used to be my God.

From them, I ordered all my books, some DVDs, many music CDs and the occasional game at a competitive price with no shipping cost. I could usually find what I was looking for and shipping was fast and reliable.

For physical orders, I still consider them the best, but my physical orders are getting replaced by digital purchases and Amazon has lagged in that department for me with their heavily DRM-ed offerings.

Most technical books, I can get from the publisher DRM-free, which constitute 80% of my book purchases.

My music, I can get DRM-free from iTunes.

My games, I can get DRM-free here.

That leaves the occasional DVD and the occasional book.

Given how happy I've been with their service until now, I did email them to tell them what they'd need to do for me to keep ordering from them at the same rate as I did before, but unsurprisingly, my advice was not heeded :P.

How far the mighty have fallen.
