Licurg: Actually it does. Like in the US, where pedophiles go to states that have lesser punishments for their insanity, there've been reports in the media about it.
And clearly in the states with capital punishment there is no crime whatsoever.

Do you think we should celebrate the man for that? Should we be saddened by his passing?

Incidentally I am very anti-capital punishment so don't lump me in with those who are in favor of it.

I always wait until some folks on this forum jump into a thread to express their moral superiority to others.

His death, nor any anguish, pain, or torture he has suffered, will somehow bring back those he killed or serve as penance for his actions.
It won't bring them back, but their families will find comfort in the fact that the pig squealed a lot before he died. I have no doubt that you live somewhere where violent crime is rare, but some of us don't, so stop pretending you understand or even give a shit, because I know you don't.

He was human being. Like every "monster" in history he was regular human. Anyone can be murderer anyone can become "monster" given right circumstances. If only one thing in his life was different he could have been now driving kids back from school.
"monsters", "not human beings" sit in every human soul and heart....

I never said there wasn't, but there is less, and it is proven that, in the U.S. criminals that are not motivated by financial reasons go to the states that have the lowest punishment for their perversion :

It doesn't in a slightest way mean they would not comit a crime at all if in every state punishment was the same.

What really drives people from comitting crimes is inevitability of being caught. If the Police had, let's say, 95% of crime solve rates, some criminals would think twice - because that means it's almost certain you will get caught. Then and only then, severe punishement can make crime rates drop.

I disagree. There are many people that live a fucked up life under horrible circumstances that don't go out raping girls and murdering people just for the pleasure of doing so.

Good of you to be so judgmental of others. Tell me, would you have been so judgmental of the us Germans in 1945 when word of Hitler's death spread throughout Germany? Did everyone not celebrate the death of Osama bin Laden in the US?

It's naive at best to think that everyone is deserving of life. I do think that the US is perhaps a little too liberal in meting out capital punishment - there have been plenty of death row prisoners who have expressed (supposedly) genuine remorse well before their execution - but there are others who never cease revelling in their raping and killing of innocent people.

What do you do with these criminals? Do you continue to incarcerate them for the rest of their lives, knowing full well that they are living off the fruits of the taxpayer for their crimes, and that you can never let them loose, knowing that they will simply kill someone else. And how do you disincentivise murder of this kind? Prison?

I'm a firm advocate of the eye-for-an-eye principle, but at the same time, I do believe that remorse should play a mitigating factor. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the question - can a criminal be made into a human being that respects life?

Edit: In fact, let me rephrase that second paragraph a little. Everyone does inherently deserve life. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone should be given the opportunity to atone for their crimes. But at the same time, there is a 'point of no return'. There's are actions and states of being where a person simply stops justifying their existence. They demonstrate by their own actions that they are incapable of respecting the right to life of others, and at that point they either do one of two things - they continue to exist at the risk of the death of others, or they continue to exist at the expense of others. The question is, what do you do at that point?
