If this is truly the case I want to see a GOG release for both of them. Seriously, there's no excuse for them not to have them for sale here.

*Incoming response of Japan loving region locking and not selling to other people yada yada yada* :' (

Big_Boss: I did not abandoned it.
This game required TWO YEARS when it was released for me to complete it.
I was stuck for two damned years into Lunatic Pandora, fighting the witch with red hair (I can't remember her name, sorry).
She was powerful,I had no spells and also I can't level up because that area gave you 1 exp for fight.
It was a nightmare, I remember that every single day, when I came back from school, I tried to pass that boss, with no luck. Then a Sunday morning, I manage to beat her,I can't say how XD

P1na: I have to admit I often restarted a Final Fantasy. On FF VII, I got stuck fighting this crappy robot near a submarine, who kept kidnapping my guys. On VIII it would be something else, I can't remember. At that point I would often restart and, once I knew what I was doing, I would reach that same boss and kick its ass so hard it wasn't even funny. But it was a matter of how I leveled up, not of needing to grind, from what I can remember.
It's a Weapon :)
You simply can't defeat it if you haven't the underwater Materia (and you must use Morph on a specific enemy that looks like a pirate ship to obtain it).

Pretty sure P1na's talking about Carry Armor, literally a robot that would pick up party members in its arms. Reno sics him on you while he gets away on the submarine carrying the Huge Materia. For FF7, anyway, no info to determine who in FF8 P1na got stuck on. :P

Emerald Weapon sucks to fight, too, though!

*Edit - fixed the boss' actual name. Whoops*

voldart: I remember FF VII being a very bad PC port. I even had to close the game with alt+f4 because there weren't any 'quit option'. Though, I had the 'free-drm' version, you know :p ... maybe was related to it?
Just for the record, you can go into the character menu at any time in the game and select quit. Might not be as simple as simply pressing Escape and confirming, but still...

I only used to use ALT+F4 because it was quicker, but then I do that with most games that support this key combo.
Hell, thanks for this information, I wasn't aware of. Coool, I'm in for FF VII - still remember the intro with the bombastic music and the sword-bladed guns - it was my first FF and the first game with that Japanese setting. I really was so impressed, I even dreamt about it.

Unfortunately I had a little bit problems with the controls, they were made up for some console and it was pretty difficult to play fluently this on a PC. I even remember the name of the bad (?) antagonist: Zifer or something like that. Is this correct that this is FF VII?
If this turns out to be true, I hope we eventually end up seeing them on GOG as well. The PC port of VII was a pain to set up due to the random codec it required (that didn't come with the game), but I love the game so much that I would buy a DRM free version of it in a heartbeat.

And while VIII has a bad reputation (especially thanks to Spoony's review), I would still be willing to give it a shot if it appeared on GOG.

No. That was FFVIII .=)

Thanks so much for the information. Guess I would have found out watching the trailers on Steam, but I am happy, already having done my homework now with this.
Seems pretty pointless when I can get it potability for a PSP or Vita... or even on the big screen using PS3...
In case anyone has troubles with it...
FF VIII is insanely easy if you just avoid leveling up at all.

jamyskis: FF1 isn't all that great a game though - certainly the weakest of the series, and only really of interest for historical reasons. Its class system is horrendous and unbalanced, and by the time you realise that the Thief and Monk classes are about as useful as a chocolate saucepan, you'll already have invested 15-20 hours into the game.
The monk class is meant to be one of the most OP classes in the game?
Somehow I've managed to avoid playing these games all these years despite having access to them since the original PS. I wouldn't mind giving them a shot, and since I do most of my gaming on the PC these days, that would as a good a place as any.
Im actually wondering if GOG actually tried to get them
My PS2 still works, and the discs of FFVIII & IX with it. Back in the day I also played FFVII, and defeated the Weapons with the help of a guide. No point for me in repurchasing any of'em.

Yes, that was the one. And I really can't remember who it was on 8, although I haven't really thought about it at all to be honest. But I think I got stuck on Skinner's Anima summon on X. Anything from then on, I never restarted, I saw no reason for it.

As for the weapons, you do have to grind for those. But I personally grinded so bad on the late game, I kicked emerald's butt without the underwater materia and without the fenix-final attack combo. I just limit broke the bastard, over and over again. It was fun. I couldn't beat Ruby without the knights though, which was disappointing (and boring)
