Well, it would be nicer to port those some good psp/gameboy games to something which I can play. =)
You mean the Wonderswan Color? It was a marvel at the time, but it's outdone by the PSP and PS1 versions.

In fact, the PSP version (and by extension, the iOS port of it) is about the most definitive version of FF1 there is.

I doubt Steam has to try. Given a choice any publisher re-releasing their classics will probably prefer to have it on both GOG and Steam rather than just GOG, and if only one probably prefer Steam. There's no real reason not to, it's simply a bigger market.

I'd care more if I didn't already have the original versions of FF7-9 and wasn't able to play them fine in EPSXE for many years now.

I am not sure how liberal this forum is in regards of debating certain things, but some games just shouldn't be bought anymore... anyone having trouble easily accessing any PSX release nowadays... never mind.

I still got VII for the PSX and I wouldn't rebuy VIII. Really loved both in their time but that's it.

Yeah. Still, as I don't plan on getting new titles here, perhaps I'll avoid getting old ones on Steam, as a gesture of support towards GOG. I probably won't get AoE2 there.

Too bad, even though I'm not a fan of FF, given their popularity I'd like to see GOG get some of the originals here, then some of the newer ones.

If the only drm on it is Steam, then I might just get it. It is one of those games I missed when I was child, I'd like to see what they hype is all about with that game.

Big_Boss: I have both games on PSN, I loved VII and enjoy VIII but men....I tried to replay VIII and is simply boring like hell,I spent maybe a whole afternoon absorbing spells to make my character stronger.
And absorbing fire from a Pyro for hours is just...well,boring.

FF1 isn't all that great a game though - certainly the weakest of the series, and only really of interest for historical reasons. Its class system is horrendous and unbalanced, and by the time you realise that the Thief and Monk classes are about as useful as a chocolate saucepan, you'll already have invested 15-20 hours into the game.

Rise of nations seems like a game that should and probably will be released here as well so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

For me, if given the choice I buy my games on Steam, the DRM doesn't bother me and I prefer the convenience of the client list/install, so in that sense I agree, I'd prefer if GOG focused on getting games you can't get elsewhere since that's why I came here to begin with.

Nope, can start right away. Quetzalcoatl learns Card-Mod, and him, Shiva and Ifrit all have Refines. Can play some cards at the start and have all your characters fitted with spells like Tornado, Thundaga, Blizzaga and Water before you even go on the SeeD exam. After that you just Refine some cards every time you get a new GF with a new Refine ability, and you can go through the game never having to draw a single spell.

I don't recall having to grind all that much on that game. I did grind on the late game, to get some badass characters, but not early in the game. Sure, you'll be more powerful if you do grind, but I didn't feel the need.

I have to say, us gamers can sometimes be pretty stupid. You can grind to be more powerful, but it's really boring. We do it anyway, and then abandon the game because it's horribly boring. I've sometimes felt prey to this, but it's just absurd.

I did not abandoned it.
This game required TWO YEARS when it was released for me to complete it.
I was stuck for two damned years into Lunatic Pandora, fighting the witch with red hair (I can't remember her name, sorry).
She was powerful,I had no spells and also I can't level up because that area gave you 1 exp for fight.
It was a nightmare, I remember that every single day, when I came back from school, I tried to pass that boss, with no luck. Then a Sunday morning, I manage to beat her,I can't say how XD

Two years? That's dedication. =)
It was harder a lot than FFVII but it wasn't that hard.
Only witch I remember that game was that Edea.

And about grinding.. I thought that there were a lot more grinding in older FF's, like FFIV which I never finished because I lost my nerves in last place.

There really isn't much going on in Final Fantasys if you don't like those combat mechanisms. Plot? yeah right.. =P

Well shit. Of course. NOW it comes to Steam. After I bought the SecuROM version with the crappy cloud saving provided by them.

If the Steam version foregoes their cloud saving for Steam cloud, even if it keeps the SecuROM, I might be convinced to buy it again.

Also, I'm interested in trying FFVIII.
