To back up your save files, remember to turn on Cloud Saving in the Network Settings panel on the FINAL FANTASY VII launcher. Uninstalling the game will delete any save files stored locally on your PC.
So...you still need a Square-Enix account to play this game? Interesting.

But I still have the original PS1 discs, so I don't really care unless this comes to GOG (when it's 80-90% off that is).

TParis: What do you mean by that?

bansama: As I said above, GOG only sell games that they can sell worldwide. They won't sell a game if they can't sell it in all countries. So, if the game has restrictions on other sites, that's a good indicator that it won't be sold here. To add to that, every time Square have been asked to sell this in Japan, they have said no.
Why would they say no?

They hate making money. Specially when they get in their heads that, with regional pricing and whatnot, selling it on PC (Japan included) would get them less money per sale than not selling anything at all but a higher price point.

Because they are Squeenix. The CEO moved the headquarters of the company because a fortune-teller told him to.
lol at needing an account to activate the game.

I'll stick with my original PS1 discs I ripped long ago and can play on EPSXE.
So it's the same version as the one you can buy off of SE's store, only now you also have it on Steam? Well I already got the one from SE's store with the mods and I'm happy with it. I don't care for the DRM but it's nothing too terrible. I actually was playing it for a bit and stopped at some point a while ago. I hope it'll still be working for me if I ever go back to finishing it... :/

Punished_Snake: PAL one.
Yeah, most PAL games were slower for quite a long time unless they were actually converted nicely (Donkey Kong Country on SNES runs at full speed in the PAL version because it was made by a UK developer).
I scanned the recent comments but didnt see the answer to this.

Does FFVII via steam require anything apart from steam such as en eidos account or whatever?
Now I know I don't need to buy the Steam version ever. I already bought it in the S-E Store last year and used "Tifa's Bootleg" to get rid of the DRM (it converts the game to the old version and I think it made the game portable) and use mods.
It's so much better with texture, models, UI and music mods. And Aeris revival, and break HP/Damage limit, and shaders, and cheats....

Yes it requires a Square store account apparently, which you log-in with when you play the play the game.

Is this for real? PAL games are slower?
I now have the obsessive urge to find NTSC replacements for all my PS1 pal ISOs

60Hz NTSC variants were used both in Japan and in the US. PAL conversion was a more complicated process, since (among other things) the game had to run at 50Hz. You either had to recode the timings on everything or slightly alter the game to run overall slower. The second variant was the more popular one. That went on even in PS2 era, but some European releases would actually let you switch to NTSC.
