What an incredibly unprofessional statement to make. To me, anyway, he comes across as one of the biggest douche bags ever... and that's with Phil Fish hanging around...

If he said that kind of thing about me, I would probably be wishing in my head that he would die too.... then feel bad about wishing it. I wouldn't put it on twitter though. And I wouldn't invite him to compare our lives, because mine would probably come off second best... still, I can understand the sentiment.

Quitting game making though is probably a mild overreaction.

I've never played Fez but some people seem to think its a good game. I will check it out sometime. I can't believe I am on Phil Fish's side in this.

By the way, here's an interesting video from American singer, Amanda Palmer, which shows how someone who is criticized by someone in the news media can respond in a constructive way.

She was dissed by the British tabloid the 'Daily Mail', who wrote an entire article about Palmer's boob escaping from her bra while singing at a British concert a couple of weeks ago instead of about the songs she was actually singing (yep, the Daily Mail is crap)..

Palmer, being the smart person she is, wrote an entire song to the Daily Mail in response and performed it. Then, to prove how little she cares about the Daily Mail and what a misogynistic newspaper she thinks it is, she performed half of the song completely naked.

Wrong. Marcus Beer invited both Blow and Fish to comment on Microsoft's new indie policies for the Xbox One and both refused. This is it. How was that "rude, abusive and nasty"? Since when is someone forced to participate in every fucking media related event ever? If they didn't want to participate, it's their right.

Marcus Beer then called Fish a "tosspot and a fucking hipster" because of that refusal. Since when is Beer correct in what he said? So yeah, he's definitely right for resorting to personal insults just because someone refused to participate in his stupid little show.

Yes, Fish acted like a twat when responding the insults, but i'm pretty sure Beer came up as the biggest asshole this time, not Fish.
Well, i can make a distinction between a piece of art and it's creator. There are many developers out there who are much worse than Fish.

It's interesting watching TotalBiscuit's videos because he sometimes talks about how difficult it is to ignore negative feedback and comments. I can imagine that with the wrong disposition it can crush you. In the film, Phil was already involved with a legal battle before he had even released his first game! It's evident he has a really hard time keeping his emotions under control.

Entirely up to you what you do with your money.

All I can say is, when you fund someone that you know is prejudiced, racist, bigoted, homophobic (that would be TenNapel), an asshole, whatever, you are supporting that philosophy and that person. So, for me, it's something I never do if I DO know about the person's views and find them offensive. (You can't know about everyone's philosophies, but you can choose to support or not support those people who's philosophies you DO know about).

Same reason I never buy at Starbucks (they give mega millions to Israel), haven't bought Dominoes pizza in decades as they're one of the US' biggest funders of anti-abortion groups and on and on and on. So, just as I don't ever knowingly buy Israeli products, not until the Israeli government stop massacring Palestinians -- I will never buy a copy of Fez as Fish is a self-involved, narcissistic, rude, ignorant, abrasive and abusive asshole.

Unfortunately, most people abrogate responsibility and buy products like Fez simply because they "want them". Selfish? Absolutely. Surprising? Not in the least, as I've learnt over the years the vast majority of people are selfish and couldn't give a toss about anyone else or anything else as long as it doesn't impact their ability to get "what they want".

My parents, however, brought me up differently and I'm always grateful for that.

Oh and no, Beer did NOT come off as "the biggest asshole". Read the comments directed at Beer and at Fish -- both at the webshows website and at Polytron's, and the vast majority are negative towards Fish as, frankly, many gamers are just sick of him and his 3-year-old child attitude.

On that note, I'm not about to get into an argument with you. I have my morals and you have yours, and today is my birthday so I'm off to enjoy it.:)

But did you actually hear what he said about "Blowfish?". Absurdly antagonistic and unprofessional in my view. I don't understand how a legit journo could call someone from the industry a "fucking hipster". I certainly wouldn't get away with that if I said that about one of my colleagues. That guy has just been given the title of "town's honorary asshole of the internet" for the day. :)

So now that he's apparently getting out of games, having worked solely on Fez since what, 2007 ... what in the actual fuck is a guy like that going to fall back on?

He's not even a programmer to my knowledge, he designed the game and drew all the pixel art.

A game that actually matters... my butt matters more than Braid. Game developers and journalists are desperate for approvement of "games as art", and Braid is always seen as their chance to get there. I remember at school the easiest way to get good grades in "artistic" and "philosophical" fields was to just blow up everythign with useless fluff and pretentiousness, there was nothing of any substance in what I wrote, yet I was always the supreme student. Do we really want approvement from such people?

Fez is a great game, but it required Phil Fish A LOT of time to be completed.
If you think that when you beat the game you obtain the first persion view, you can use it on every single screen, you can understand how much work is behind this game.
Maybe he doesnn't want to repeat this frustrating experience, and he deleted Fez 2.

Well, PC's are for spreadsheets and he dislikes Microsoft and the Xbox so I guess good riddance.

Consider the alternative; point out the hollow pretentiousness of a game and receive no end of hatred from the sheep insisting you just don't "get" it, have poor taste, are just click baiting something popular, etc. Everyday forum users can speak their minds without much consequence but those employed to write about a thing can only be controversial up to a point.

A significant percentage of those praising shallow "art" genuinely believe it due to constant reinforcement indoctrination (if everyone says it it must be true) and/or don't want to admit that they don't "get" it (some of these will also succumb to the indoctrination).

Big-budget games get a very similar treatment which is also based on "popular opinion is truth" logic; Oblivion was hailed as the ultimate RPG with few flaws being noted as sites gushed over its content and features, but as soon as news was revealed of how Skyrim improved on it there was no end of coverage of all sorts of major flaws in Oblivion as if they hadn't mattered until that moment. Similarly, ways in which Skyrim was worse than Oblivion were brushed over because it is impolite to call out a sequel of such high regard... at least until the next Elder Scrolls game rolls around, at which point Skyrim is ripe and ready for dissection.
