I really love your site, GOG team and I keep praising you all day. I´m even running a fanclub for you...
But today, I´ve got very disappointed.
Today, I´ve got the answer from the developers of the amazing 1st-person-puzzle-game Q.U.B.E.

Why isn´t your fantastic game also availible on GOG.com?
Is there any specific reason for that?
I´m just wondering, course you are already offering a DRM-free Version.

"Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately GOG only take newly released indie games so we couldn't get on there but we have met with them several times. You can find a DRM version of QUBE on many other sites though, such as Gamersgate and Greenman Gaming.

This is just pissing me off: Why do you refuse to add such a great game?
Do you think it wouldn´t be worth to be part of your catalogue? Can you even think about folks won´t play this game only because YOU didn´t add this to your cataloge?


With Magrunner and The Swapper we´ve already got two Portal-Likes here and as we´ll never get Portal here, you HAVE to at least collect every clone/ inspired game that´s out there


Oh, and could you please INFORM us every time you reject a developer in future? It would be WAY more friendly and fair, for the developers as well as for the customers...

So, the question is, did the developers ask GOG if they are interested, or did they assume GOG only releases new indie games and didn't bother? We already had the "fact" about GOG not doing a standard 70/30 from a developer that was never in contact with GOG.

Well, I thrust GOG to do the best for it´s customers.
And, as we see here again, they aren´t doing this...
Rejecting a well-done game with good reviews and espacially good user reviews is just weired...

I think it's bullshit. Not all indies here were accepted only because they were brand new. Probably their demands for percentage were not met.

In all honesty, I just checked some trailers and screenshots and I don't think Q.U.B.E. is GOG material... I know GOG has been releasing some newer indie titles, but if you look at it, those titles are somewhat in line with the classic good old games they also sell, which Q.U.B.E. isn't.

Q.U.B.E. may be a great game, I'm not questioning that, but to be honest it's not exactly the kind of game I associate with GOG.com.

The thing is, if this is the case, i can understand why 'new' indies are a priority. New ones are unlikely to have been on sale x amount of times or bundled the crap out of (ie most people wont have gotten it drm free or drmed). Unless it 'was' a fantastic game (ie popular and good seller), imho its unlikely GOG will be interested. Have a look at all the indie games released. They are either new, or kind of unique in some sort of way (ie Aqua Kitty,Reus, Rogue Legacy), or if not new reasonably popular for the life of the game ie Trine 2.

Hehe, says the store which has released half its indies after they've been in bundles...

What's gog material nowadays?

Of course releases just at launch are the best ones.
But what does it help NOT releasing a game at all? The chance that it will be bundled on other sites is just rising then, link to developers and chance to get upcoming games of them on GOG is reduced and, of course, the biggest problem:

The game will simply BE not on GOG at all, even not in ten years, if it became a modern classic...
(Like Limbo, Bastion or TheWalkingDead)

I'll just add my voice here fore the sake of Q.U.B.E. It's a good game with very fun puzzles and it should be here.
If the GOG staff are reading then take note. The example of Indies comes late here have been given (Let me add Amnesia to that list). So the excuse given falls flat. I hope you reconsider your decision on Q.U.B.E.

Yeah, that's really just not true at all. It would still be interesting if that's what GOG actually told them though. I doubt it's a quality issue though as the game is a hell of a lot better than some of the ones on here.

I'd imagine that what GOG actually said was that they're more interested in new games and will prioritise those over older games as the sales of new games is always far greater.

Games that are a bit old really aren't GOG's priority, either from a good old games or a new games standpoint.

They will do the best for their business, which often includes the best for their customers, but not always. If they think a game won't sell enough to be worth the attention, they won't just bring it here for a handful of people interested in it. That's not meant as criticism of Q.U.B.E. on my part, but for GOG the game might fall into this category for some reason.

The thing about newly indies is BS though, as JMich pointed out. I could actually understand and respect the decision to only release new indie games that haven't been bundled before and weren't available DRM-free on other services, but that's not one of GOG's policies, or if it is they're not very consistent about it.

Personally I'm sad too that great indie developers have their games rejected by GOG, but as long as there are alternative ways how they can get my money and I still get a DRM-free version from elsewhere, I'm fine.
