I'm very much in favour of EA (as well as any other publisher or developer who wants to) having their own DD shop. However:

As an added benefit, Origin's security enables you to install your game on up to three machines - so you can play at work and at home!

That's pretty dodgy. Are they really trying to pursuade potential customers that having all the annoyances that they already have to put up with at Steam, but with the added restriction that you can't install on more than 3 computers, is a good thing?

To be honest why would most people need to have all their games installed and running on more than three machines?

Why does it matter? If that's what people want top do, why shouldn't they be able to? I love how they try to make a restriction look like an 'added benefit'.

Bah, this is just more DRM horse shit:

In addition to enabling faster download of EA games, pre-loading, and game patch updates, Origin provides security for your downloadable games. Instead of inserting a disc in the drive, you simply login to Origin periodically to start your game. If you are already logged in to Origin, you won't be prompted to login before starting your game.

What security does it provide other than for EA? Login periodically to start your game? Sounds like the recurring authentication that they tried on ME1.

This isn't any better or worse than Steam, but it's certainly nothing more than just another DRM scheme.

Depends on where you work. I worked at a game studio once where half the people on my floor played L4D2 or WoW during lunch.

Yeah it's PR guff but like I said it's not a 3 activation limit it's three machines active at the same time. Even if it's a restriction I can't imagine it's one that will affect many people.

they really don't.

that's ain't the point tough. it is matter of principle. they take away small part of what was always your right.

next time some other right of yours will be taken away from you and you wont care because also that right will not be of any use for you.

then they will take another of your right and this time you will care...

that's horrible. wonder how it will work out. i had my steam installed on 7-10 different machines... 8 of them had HL2 installed since 2004.
i never uninstalled it tough...

so that means calling EA support? and what if i buy game in poland and then try to install it on computer in australia. who do i call then?

You log in on EA live chat and talk to a real person. EA has some of the best customer support I've seen.

that's nice to know but still the limit is still unacceptable. smells a bit of orwelian chocolate rations.

i bought terraria 2 weeks ago. already have it installed on two different computers and probably gonna install it on third. i am not gonna waste my time with uninstalling it whenever i get my new brand computer just because of some frigging 'feature'

that limit is good enough for me to not care about the store till they remove it completely.
