As everyone seems to be saying, Old World Blues is worth getting for sure. It's basically an expansion pack, even though it only cost $10 at release.

The other three... not as easy. Honest Hearts is really focused on exploration and is basically just a new canyon to explore. There are missions and a story, but it's really, really basic. If you want to just run around in a new area looking for stuff I would say get it. If that's not why you play these kinds of games, don't.

Dead Money is survival horror, which is weird. It has some of the best dialogue in the entire New Vegas catalog, maybe in gaming, but the actual gameplay is a bit lacking. If you like the idea of scrounging around and hiding for survival though, and like rich and well written dialogue, then I would say get Dead Money.

I have not played Lonesome Road yet, but I hear it is a linear shooter style of DLC, like Anchorage in Fallout 3. I am not enthused.

Side note: the Gun Runner's Arsenal DLC is actually pretty cool. It adds a lot of new weapons, some interesting modifications and challenges to boot. That's easily worth the sale price.

Especially today, since both add-ons cost less than a dollar.

Lonesome Road is actually quite similar to Dead Money, but it's even more linear. And the emotional impact that Avellone was going for doesn't really happen. What is actually going on in LR remains too vague. It's good, though. But I was more invested in Dead Money and OWB, by far.

I notice a few people haven't played Lonesome Road yet so I will just summarise and say it's very combat heavy and best played right before the battle of Hoover Dam, it's very much endgame content. It has some of the toughest fights in the game with rampaging Deathclaws, irradiated super-ghouls called Marked Men and creatures similar to the Trogs in The Pitt called Tunnelers which as you can imagine burst out of the ground. It's very combat heavy and not a DLC you want to attempt without the best loot you can find. The rewards are some of the best armor and weapons seen yet. Even the Bowie Knife is hands down the best knife in the game and then there is the Red Glare semi-auto Rocket Launcher.

For the Fallout story fans it's very much the Courier's story and history so if you don't give a toss about him/her then you won't really care about the story of Lonesome Road. The ending however is interesting because depending on where Fallout 4 goes it could completely change everything about the West Coast. Chris Avellone wrote it as a reset button so they would have a blank slate for any future Fallout games if they wish.

Does anyone know for sure if I'll be able to use gifted DLCs for FONV from US/UK? My region is Eastern Europe, but I have UK retail copy of FONV and I was able to activate Dead Money purchased from D2D UK. Not sure if gift through steam would do this kind of trick, cause D2D codes are treated like retail in Steam.

I have gifted New Vegas UK, and gifted Old World Blues also from UK works (at least it shows in my "avaiable dlc" section for NV - downloading atm so i will know for sure in about 3 hours, unless i'll pass out earlier).

Perhaps I'll get the Old World Blues to accompany NV then. The others don't really sound like my cup of tea.

Yep, I ended up buying most of them from Steam because I was able to do so for less than the cost of buying the DLC for my PS3.

Old World Blues or Dead Money are definitely the best picks. personally, I preferred Dead Money, but there's a ton of things to do in Old World Blues as well.

I just picked up Lonesome Road because it was at a deep discount and from the reviews it's probably only worth about what I paid for it. Extremely linear and quite short.

I got everything I was missing. I paid full price for Dead Money and Honest Hearts to support Obsidian, the rest I got on sale since I'm saving to move in January. I can't give you a review on the DLC since I haven't actually gotten around to playing it yet, but for $10 USD for the batch? That's as much as one costs when it's not on sale. GO BAI NAO. ;)

It is like 16 bucks for all of it. All of it. Base game and all. I think.

As for the DLCs, they are a mixed bag, but all of them considerably better than the F3 DLCs. If anything, the BEST of the F3 DLCs (point Lookout) is comparable to the WEAKEST of the NV DLCs (Honest Hearts). The rest? Blow them out of the water entirely.

Dead Money tries something different, making it survival-horror. It is... flawed, but interesting. It has tense gameplay (particularly in Hardcore mode), and it has the best writing in the entire game, which was already very, very solid. Great characters, great experiments, and definitely worth it.

Honest Hearts is a bit more aimless, since the main plot is very, very short. It rewards exploration, and patience. The main campaign there is underwhelming, but once you manage to find all of the Survivalist's logs, things make more sense, and it becomes a stronger experience. At first it feels like a letdown, since a character that was quite hyped in the base game ends up... well, not as awesome, but it makes sense even thematically, and it is NOT his story, anyways.

Old World Blues is different. The tone is both funnier and considerably more depressing/disturbing than in the other DLCs (except maybe Lonesome Road). Free roam, nonlinear, and its theme is 50's mad science. It ties in with Dead Money, so if you get two DLCs, make it this and Dead Money ( and play Dead Money first. That is important).

Lonesome Road is hard. It is also completely linear. It has great set pieces, hard combat, GREAT NEW GEAR, and an interesting "adversary". It is all about the courier, and it was written as a possible reset button for new entries in the series. It's not the weakest entry in the game, but it definitely felt underwhelming after Old World Blues.


Got OWB and Lonesome Road on release, after getting DM and HH at a discount. That after getting NV for 7.50 bucks. It is EXTREMELY worth it at that price.

My personal favourite of the bunch is Dead Money, but most people like Old World Blues better. (Not that I rank OWB much lower - it's just that the writing in DM was so incredible).

Haven't played Lonesome Road as my graphics card failed before its release, but of the three expansions I have played Honest Hearts is definitely the weakest. Pretty to look at (from a distance - the engine really doesn't do smooth, rocky landscapes well) but not much substance, even if you try to explore everything.

Regardless, you won't go wrong in buying any of them, especially for that price. Individually they're probably stronger than any part in the vanilla game, even at their weakest. It's been a while since I played the FO3 DLCs (and I only played the first three) and I have some very fond memories of The Pitt, but I really can't say if the NV DLC is better. I guess Honest Hearts might not stack up against Point Lookout, but I wouldn't really know.

argh, and I played Old World Blues before Dead Money...

People keep saying that but I never noticed. I can only assume I've perfectly specced my character for combat. I have Elijah's LAER along with the energy weapon & critical perks and I can kill anything in the game with 1-2 shots, usually taking out anyone standing next to the target when he takes a critical and explodes in a large burst of plasma. The last fight (when going the persuasive route) took about 6-7 minutes, most of which was choosing a target in VATS and watching them explode

Steam has an autumn sale this weekend that puts a discount of 75% on all Fallout: New Vegas products. I already had the game but didn't have any of the DLC's, so I just got all six of them for about € 12,- :-)

I really don't want to sound pestilent, but anyone willing to make an exchange for FONV DLCs? I need OWB, HH and LR for my UK retail version (I guess US versions would suffice also). I don't know how much these DLCs cost for other regions, mine shows 2,5$ each, so I'd make it worth with something for 10$ on steam or here.
