prakaa: Turns out a good friend of mine assembled his computer and was planning to do some more from that very site. This might make it possible for me to build one; if not, i'll definitely go with those prebuilts from PCCG
I remember my first attempt at it didn't go very well. That was nearly 20 years ago, and back then you could by computers which weren't completely compliant, meaning that the slot might be the correct one, but it would be in the wrong position so that you couldn't install 3rd party hardware. It took several trips back to the shop before anybody pointed that out.
And that was before the internet was widely available so there wasn't really any good way of getting information other than magazines or at the shop. Good times.
Compared to that this is a walk in the park, if the connector fits without forcing it, it's almost certainly the right slot and the main quibbles being power supply rating and type of RAM. The latter can be found on any credible memory manufacturer's web site.
