Aliasalpha: Yeah but you can't boost your luck in the real world, or at least I've not seen the option when levelling myself up

cw8: If you go into gambling with thoughts about winning money, more likely you'll lose money.
This.

Apart from folks like me and rain man it's not generally possible. But you're absolutely right, it takes a sort of supernatural focus to ignore the money.
Well I can understand playing poker (and caravan) for the fun/challenge and not specifically to win money, you have to build something out of your hand and you can bluff and strategically discard but what fun is roulette? A wheel spins, at the end your guess is either right or wrong and about the only strategy you can apparently take is whether you want to guess something unlikely or play it safe. Slots are even worse, your strategy is to play it or not

As FNV is a drmed monopoly of Steam, you should find better answers in the Steam forums.

In real life there's several games you can reliably profit from. Video poker, Poker and Black Jack. I'm less familiar with craps, but I've heard that one is included as well.

And believe it or not, there are some slots that do pay out more than they take in to draw in crowds. You just have to look at the payout schedule and find one that adds up to something over 100%.
If you play mathematically optimal Blackjack, your expected loss is very small. If you in addition can apply a shrewd technique like card counting or otherwise something that gives you additional information, you can easily knock the ROI over 100%. There's famous cases of gamblers "breaking the bank" in this way.
Just looking through the new vegas nexus for radio mods to make it a bit more interesting, seen over 200 songs and not ONE person has added Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World". Am I the only person alive who thinks this song is perfect Fallout material? The irony of it would be flawless.

Good thing youtube and audacity exist...

It's a fairly new song - it came out in '68. I'd say its overall sound doesn't fit.
Just finished Vault 11. I think what went down in there was really interesting...

Its definitely a newer song but it really doesn't sound it to me. It still has that smooth, old timey vibe of a bygone erawhen women couldn't vote and certain folk weren't allowed on golf courses? (Pepperidge Farm remembers)

Call me old fashioned ... but I think we should worship the sun and moon as powerful gods, and fear them.

Whitecroc: I can't get enough of Big Iron. Heh.

Also, roulette is damn boring. I mean, seriously. Who the heck spends his life savings on something like that?
avatar
Aliasalpha: As is the slots. It really made me question how people can be addicted to that sort of midlessly repetitive thing thats a constant money sink with sod all real reward.

Ahh then again, WoW...
Well, at least slots make those nice mechanical sounds when you pull 'em. I'm also under the impression there are some more sophisticated slots where some degree is strategy is used - although that might just be something I remember from a video game.

And I take exception to the WoW comment. Sort of. Haven't played in nine or ten months. Some nights I start trembling and can't stop. But only some nights. It was worse in the beginning. :P

That's probably video poker, although there might be others.
Well I've been playing with radio mods and it makes a lot of difference. More importantly, I added Its A Wonderful World and it was perfect! I heard it for the first time as I approached a desolate stretch of barren highway with a crimson caravan massacre. Blowing the arm off a powderganger as armstrong sings "I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do?" was some beautiful irony
Enhanced Blood is my latest favourite mod: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34917
