But no, I'm not saying it's going to suck because of a few bugs, I'm saying that I got a weird feeling about this and because I trust my guy more than I trust some douchebags at a newspaper I'm going to hold judgement on it. I'm going to keep an eye on it, but I'm not going to get super excited about it.
I didn't play console versions of any of the recent TES games, but I do know that in Morrowind you can resize your menus and that I heard in the Xbox version you can't.

Surely the fact that Alpha Protocol has been pushed back is a good thing? It means it's getting every effort it needs to be a fully polished, complete and enjoyable game. If that had happened with their previous games they wouldn't have been released in such an unfinished state.
Plus there was that whole 2009 exdus it seemed to be a part of. No publisher wanted to release a title in the middle of a recession and Sega wasn't an exception.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm predicting bugs here too. But like all the main Fallout games before it, I'm predicting that the pros will outweigh the cons. The cons always include bugs. Always. It's unavoidable in a game that complex.
But you don't sound like you want a simpler game and frankly nor do I. I'll take a few bugs over a dumbed down or stripped game experience.
As for Morrowind. Yeah, that was probably the case. But it's hardly surprising that the console version doesn't get much in the way of graphical/UI configuration options. It's hardly the same as the game being dumbed down so it can fit within the technical constraints/appeal to a wider audience. But as stated before, it's a bit irrelevant in any case. This will be an Obsidian game. If they dumb it down for consoles then that will be their call.

I don't really care about Alpha Protocol, it's only worth noting that it was delayed a great deal. Yes, it means we should expect a higher quality release, however if the only way Obsidian can make a high quality release is by taking 12 years to fix it we might as well call these games DNF.
Again, NWN2 has had mixed results as being either really good or pretty bad.
As for the TES games, I used the only thing I knew to back up my statements as a for example. It's quite possible the UI thing was the only thing that was left out, but what I didn't mention is that from what I understand the PC version of Oblivion is missing the same element.
It shows that Bethesda it's leaning towards streamlining the process. And just because Obsidian is handling the development doesn't mean we've seen the dirty laundry of the clause that might say things like "has to work for stupid people on consoles" which means they'll be shipping it with a special 1 button controller for "next FMV"

Whoa, whoa, whoa! This is Fallout by the makers of the fucking originals. Let's not lose all perspective here. There has already been enough info on the game to throw out any notion of the game being dumbed down for consoles.
Regardless of what you think of the writing (which admittedly wasn't great) Bethesda didn't strip away the mechanics of the game. The SPECIAL system was still there as was the Pipboy (albeit radically redesigned) .
The main thing Obsidian have to do here is raise the standards of writing. Especially characterisation. If KOTOR and NWN2 indicate anything it's that they can definitely manage that.
Hell if Obsidian could manage the level of characterisation Bioware recently achieved with Mass Effect 2 then we could be looking at my all new number one favourite game. But there's nothing to suggest that they will.

The SPECIAL system was there but it was utterly broken. I'm pretty sure Obsidian will do nothing about it. Technically the game will remain unchanged, which isn't so bad after all. All i expect from them is a decent story, dialogues and good voice acting. And when i look at KotOR 2 (which is just superb in that aspect) i rest assured they'll not fail.

The underlying system may not change, but I think the implementation will. Being a diplomat will have far more staying power in New Vegas then in 3.

Call it wishful thinking, but I still wish someday, Cain, Taylor, Avellone, Fargo and all the other guys who did Fallout can just get back together and work on a real cRPG again. :(

Well having mixed feelings about it, but the general feel (including dialog) does look better than the initial Fallout 3 ones imho. TBH this has made me more hopeful, but the super mutants are still rather cringeworthy.

Especially the "invisible/stealth" super mutant (second picture).
Also the article state that it's not known if the game will use Obsidian own engine or Fallout 3 one, but if you believe a French game magazine that did an article (with interview) about the game this month, it will use Fallout 3 engine and dev tools with just some minor tweak on the gameplay mechanics.

Nothing very ambitious so far from the screenshots. Hopefully that will change, but if I wasn't already interested in the game, these screenshots certainly wouldn't be selling it on me.

It's been established for a while now that it's using the same engine. It's also using most of the same assets if the screenshots are anything to go by.
