Pheace: Hoping they manage to get Workshop integration on this, the modding scene for this game could be great.
workshop integeration would be useful for those owning STEAM copies. I believe there are 100k copies (on record from dev's) at least that will be UNABLE to take advantage of it (me being 1 of them). The best workaround would be having something LIKE the Steam workshop in-game for everyone to use and not split the community in 2

Although true, I still think I saw him mention he's hoping to have Workshop integration in the future. It's a shame that wouldn't do anything for those who don't have it on Steam, I realize that, but it would still be great to have (for those that do)

Found the post:
Link (post requesting more Steamworks features to be used)

Response: "That is the plan in the long-run. Particularly the Steam Workshop features for modders."

draginol: A couple things.

(1) The game does not use Steamworks. Even the version on Steam doesn't use Steamworks. Downloading it is just a URL and huge setup.exe.

(2) Anyone who bought War of Magic in 2010 or before gets Fallen Enchantress for free. Hopefully, that will restore some of the lost confidence some people had with Stardock.
Hi Brad, nice to see you here. :)

Thanks for the clarification wrt Steamworks. The game is labeled as "Steamworks" on several places that I checked, but I guess the Steam/Steamworks difference confuses some of the shops and reviewers as well. Good to have that clarified.

I've spent some time thinking about what _could_ win me over to buy Fallen Enchantress, and I think the best way to convince me is a demo. I'm not one of the guys who's saying "Down with Stardock", or "Never again buy a game from them" - but I am skeptical if you really _can_ make this game work. If you can show me that (in an environment where I can experiment myself), then you might gain another customer. I don't know how your stance is toward a demo version though. I guess I'm not the first person to ask for one.

Also, while you're here, may I point out that there are some people here who would really, really like to buy some of Stardock's older games on GOG? :) I own most of them on Impulse (a remnant of my old TotalGaming.Net subscription), but I would really like to get away from Gamestop, and would probably rebuy them here if the price is right.

Brad mentioned recently that he'd like to sell GalCiv on GOG. I believe he also mentioned somewhere, that there will be a demo eventually, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

There is however a Let's play-series by Das123. He is currently showcasing the game for new players. Here is the link: http://forums.elementalgame.com/434625
SD CEO Frogboy want first put on GOG GalCiv http://forums.elementalgame.com/434796 maybe later rest of SD games.

I'm a sucker for fantasy TBS, and the reception for this game seems pretty good so far, so I'll probably pick it up at some point. Maybe even today, if the GOG weekend sale doesn't make too big a dent in my gaming budget.

catwhowalks: What dishonest? They have always said that those who bought it during 2010 would get the next expansion for free. When they abandoned that and started working on FE instead, they said they'd get it for free instead. They NEVER said those who bought it in 2011 would get it for free, ever.

roninnogitsune: It feels like fine print BS and simply put all negative reviews were all Technical stuff and a decent company would have fixed the problems. So instead of fixing it they offer a free version of the new game but with a fine print exception that is telling my that my money is worth less, that my trust was worth less and it's ok, I didn't pirate the game and if it was a company like Firaxis, E:WoM would have been made a working game instead of getting a new game. I am very sick of Stardock talking like they're in the customer's best interest and then having actions that are the complete opposite.
Except that they DID fix all the technical issues for WoM and revamped the game majorly to the point of majorly altering some of the core concepts to make it better. The consensus is that they left WoM without the showstopping bugs and a a far better state than it had been. It was decided at that point, however, that if they wanted to make a truly good game out of it, instead of trying to keep patching the one they had, they needed to start all over again, which resulted in FE.

So yeah, your criticism is pure garbage because they did fix all the technical issues.

Very good guide for beginners.
Here is a review by Gameinformer:
http://www.gameinformer.com/games/elemental_fallen_enchantress/b/pc/archive/2012/10/25/elemental-fallen-enchantress-review.aspx

"I like Fallen Enchantress. It’s the closest anyone has come to producing the game I’ve been dreaming about since I was an adolescent with visions of wizards carving fantastical empires out of a hostile world. But as much as I feel like I should be head-over-heels in love with it, my 50-plus hours with the game leave me satisfied rather than ecstatic."

While I don't agree with everything he says, it is still a good review and worth a look.

Ninja'd hours ago. How fitting.

Okay, this is a something I didn't expect.

Just got an email from Brad to the purchasers of WoM, apologizing once more for that game and informing me that I can get the new game for free. I already know that of course, although there were probably quite a few who did not, but it still very much appreciated.
So I did end up buying this, and have just played through the tutorial and a bit of the campaign. I really, really like it so far. Everything seems great, from the solid gameplay with plenty of options to things like UI and art style. Actually, from the screenshots I'd seen before playing, I wasn't expecting to like the art style much but it's very attractive in-game.

Anyway, if the 1.0 release of the game is this good I can't wait to see how it is after patching and expansions (if they do any).

SD have plans for dlc (multiplayer, new gear/weapons for each faction) and expansions (naval battles, naval units, city siege etc). And an old school rpg in elemental uniwerse.
In next week we got 1.1 patch, with some new content.

A pretty fair review. But to me, what they describe as negatives (individual game styles, different ways to play disconnected from the other parts) I actually see as a positive. You can make any faction to fit your style of play, and every faction plays differently. Some are hero based, some are magic based, and some like the faction I made are trade & research based.

It does create a little bit of an oddity in that your playing an RPG and a 4X game at the same time, but it also makes the game feel more open to possibilities. There's no "right" way to play FE.
