If your body is male or female, then that's what you technically are, no matter how you may see yourself. If you get it changed, then great, you are something else - but I don't care if people were one and are now the other, or halfway there, or consider themselves an alien from deep space or a figment of the universe's imagination. How does this really have any bearing on anything outside their circle of friends anyway? Preaching to the choir, and that's pretty much how "TransWoman" summed it up anyway.

nresteiner: You are correct that sex is genetically determined, however gender is a social construct, like race. Certain cultures have more than the binary male/female gender dichotomy that the West has.
I see your point; I wasn't really thinking "gender", just genetic sex. I do think there are too many "rules" on what people should be based on their sex; now that I think about it, I just think we should all call ourselves "human" - too much emphasis on our differences.

Claims are claims, but genes and hips don't lie!

A chick with a dick does not exist, if they are a male waiting for a sex surgery, only then I would agree to treat them as real women. Until then they are male according to the presence of a penis.

No in between, just a masculine or a feminine nature, deal with it;, "freaks of culture"!

The presence of the Y gene is determining the sex of a person as a male. Women are / have X chromosomes only.

Hermaphroditism at birth is an extremely rare case and a biological anomaly. Normally, doctors shall and will try their best to "fix" it with surgery for medical reasons, leading the person to one of the two existing sexes / genders.

I'm over it these persons exist, thank you I wasn't denying their dignity to be alive!

Actually, almost 2% of live human births are some form of intersex. So not common, but not "extremely rare physical anomaly cases". That's almost 1 out of ever 50 live births.
Of course, "gender" being a completely different thing.

As for facebook having 50 different gender options now...doesn't affect me in the least, and I don't care about it. Good for whoever it benefits.

Exactly. I don't understand the "Im upset because they are giving options to people" crowd. It's like they want to hide these other people away, like the handicapped or disabled and try to forget about them. Or even worse marginalize/de-humanize them, allowing the sort of comments coming from people who just don't know any better. It's a slippery slope to throwing them all into a gulag, or branding them as criminals or throwing them into concentration camps.

Way to take my words out of context. My comment says there are two genders, not three, not 50.

What is troubling you? That I wrote "a chick with a dick does not exist"?

Crude words but I meant no disrespect, only that having a penis definitely makes a person a male to my perception, and unless said person go through a sex surgery for an artificial vagina with a matching female hormones treatment, I would still consider "her" as male.

Then, what Facebook does to win more users I just couldn't care less.

Yeah, I've run into intolerant people on both sides of the political spectrum. There's people who want to make everyone live a certain way on both the left and the right. Two wrongs don't make a right, and the militant homosexual lobby can be just as weirdly frightening as the militant pro-life lobby. The defining characteristic of a wacko is their willingness to go to the extreme, not what political ideology they follow.

Although, isn't it great that wackos are on all sides? They kind of cancel each other out. Except during primary voting periods.

In other words - what we're dealing with here is kinda like a totem animal, right? Arbitrary, contrived, deriving meaning solely through others interpreting it in a specific way, giving a sort of tribal identity of "us" versus "them"... except that this is a personally chosen and self-assigned label, I guess.

Unlike "Hi, I'm a level 90 paladin!", I guess here "I don't give a shit; this is not relevant to me within the scope of this conversation's context" is probably NOT considered a valid response ;P.

For whatever reason I can't stop thinking "willow tree" now. I considered making a joke about how they should've simply given people a text field to fill, and how I could've finally revealed to the world the fact that I self-identified as a willow tree...
