Aurun101: when you did the setup did you have to select either soundblaster or built in sound or did it not ask for any type of sound?
KingofGnG: Yeah, of course, the game launcher just asks what you want to use for sound. It's just the way the game worked since I first played it on my 286 years ago..... ArbitraryWater

Which in and of itself is rather unfortunate, as the rights to the D&D license are in the hands of Atari, which basically means that we will never see any of SSI's great D&D games unless an arrangement is made. It's basically the same reason why System Shock 2 has yet to be released.

(Replying to old post, as I was looking for this info and figured I'd reply here as it's the newest relevant thread).
I'm another person who is itching to see the EoB series released on gog.com, and would probably play some of the other SSI games, too.
I think Ubisoft has the rights to SSI. Since there are other Ubisoft games on gog.com, hopefully we'll see some of these old-school gems someday.
/edit: Gah! After posting this, I see that there were a number of other posts in this thread. When I first opened this thread, only a few posts loaded (up to the one I replied to).

You might try getting this. It's a compilation of the SSI games + EoB that was released about a decade ago. I picked it up when it was available in Wal-mart. I could've sworn it also had the Krynn games in there as well, but guess I was mistaken.

I bought a 6 disc set of ssi forgotten realms, years ago. Menzoberanzen, Eob trilogy, etc... No idea how to get it up and running, if it's even possible, on Win7. :/

All the games, individually, should work very well under DosBox. It's possible, though, that the shell programme of the compilation doesn't. edit : there were quite a few compilation. It's still possible to order one of them (Gamefest) - at a price - and they ship a fully new installer with it as the Win 95 installshield doesn't work properly under 7 / edit
You may want to use a frontend for Dosbox ( D-fend reloaded ), configure a profile for the installer programme, launch it, install them en then configure profiles for each game. Or directly attempt to install the games individually .
edit : I recommend using the frontend for two reasons :
1) some of the games might use dos extender. The frontend make it meuch easier to find the correct setting
2) one of the key issues in how HDD and CD are mounted. Menzoberranzan fi will look for a cd in the drive specified at the time of installation. / edit
That's what I did for the SSi wargame classics simulation and that works perfectly well.

Resurrection: Didn't want to start another thread
Anyway - After finishing Legend of Grimrock last weekend I decided to play through the Eye of the Beholder Series - What Fun.
I had so forgotten how difficult and intertwined Levels 7, 8, and 9 of the original were.
On to Level Ten - Gotta get that Xanathar!!

*cough, cough* Too many candles for this necromancy! *waves to clear air*
For those who don't know but are interested in similar titles, you can look online for free copies of the Dungeon Master (1987) series, This led to the Eye of the Beholder series (1990). Later came Ultima Underwolds (1992). The latest incarnation of this DM style is Legend of Grimrock (2012). HTH

I wonder why the old D&D games are not on GOG, since it already has some ubisoft games.
