if i buy a game and download it, would an expansion pack still work?

if i bought il 2 for instance, could i buy a CD expansion pack like forgotten battles?

The version sold here is Il-2 1946, it includes all the expansion packs and sequels packed into one game. All you need to do is apply the new 4.09 patch, which GOG don't seem to have incorporated into their version just yet.
