you're afraid it'll be a huge time sink?

The list of stuff I'd love to check out but am worried about my life getting sucked up into the vortex of awesome:

- ArmA 2
- Battlefield 3
- X series (I may try this one anyway)
- Eve online
- Minecraft
75% of the time... It is the reason I have not gotten Baldur's Gate series and Icewind Dale series from GOG. I am afraid I do not have enough time to invest on them.
Buy ArmA 2.

Now.

Or play ArmA 2: Free.
I bought Minecraft something like 2 months ago, and I regret. Since then, I stopped reading. Fortunately, I finally got bored, so I may stop playing it.

HereForTheBeer: Ever not buy a game because you're afraid it'll be a huge time sink?
Sure, all the time after playing World of Warcraft. I've avoided anything similarly time-consuming ever since leaving that game. For this reason, I doubt I'll ever play "Star Wars: The Old Republic".
Any MMORPG.

I do get to notice when a game becomes a huge time sink though. It happened with Civilization IV. I stopped playing that thing and haven't even touched the expansions. The amount of time I spent with just two play sessions made me rethink my priorities. I should save it for when I'm on vacation and bored at home or if I ever end up with a broken arm or leg and unable to work for a couple of weeks.

edit: Crap. I work with a computer. If i can play, then I can also work.

I've specifically never played the last two for this very reason. I even bought Minecraft in order to support Notch, just refuse to play it.

This man speaks the truth. Game of the decade right here.
I'm actually the opposite. I don't buy games if I feel they lack depth.

Despite this, MMORPG's don't appeal to me at all either, mainly b/c I find having to stay online, simply to play, is a major turn-off for me. Even if the game asks for no online fees.

So I'm fine w/a game that's a time sink, so long as the game is fulfilling to me & I can play the whole game while being offline. :oD

I'll buy games because.. I'm not rich but I love this community and it's sweet to remember games that you don't remember without this forum. And also sometimes they are so cheap. One beer in bar equals almost two games.
Well, I still drink beer.
That's life for you.
But if I answer that question.. I will never buy games that I know that will suck and are too expensive.

/me pionts at minecraft server topic.

Back to HftB's point. I like to play something that keeps me occupied. Take MC as an example, always something to do. Whereas black ops (single player) was what 6 hours... thats 1 sitting. With a few exceptions im not a multiplayer person. I like the look of Eve but pay to play... no thanks.
Not really. I'm probably going to be spending much of my free time on games anyway, so if one game lasts me a long time, so much the better.
