Given the popularity of the games, will this ever be remade, or another game made with this title? I tried doing a search online, and found varying stories.

You mean you missed the whole Duke Nukem Taking Forever saga?
I haven't heard/read anything but in my opinion Duke Nukem Forever killed the franchise.
Gearbox owns the Duke Nukem IP now from what I gather, and Randy Pitchford expressed in the past that after DNF they would make a "proper" Duke Nukem game.

Nah, the position of swearing ass-kicking shooter hero is already taken by Sam. Seriously, Duke is history.
Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded was cancelled so, no remake in the horizon :( As for Forever, you may want to look at the Duker Nukem Forever 2000 Edition (or something like that), which is basically Forever the way it was supposed to be according to the year 2000 trailer (it does run on Build though so no fancy graphics or anything, just plain old Duke).
have a look at duke nukem megaton on steam its not a full remake but does have improved graphics than original
Why do we need a remake of Duke Nukem 3D?
It plays perfecty well using Eduke32, and it's more fun than modern FPSes. And that's not nostalgia speaking, since I only played it for the first time earlier this year.

Agreed.
The last Serious Sam wasn't as good as the others but he's still going strong and I have hopes that there will be another great game in the series.

Serious Sam 2 even had an easteregg, where duke was hanging from a tree with a rocket in his...well...backside.
All I'm hoping for at this stage is for the guy behind the Brutal Doom mod, to create a similar mod for Duke Nukem :D
I want to play Duke Nukem 3D again, but at this stage it just won't feel as badass anymore having played Brutal Doom :P

Hanging like... forever. :-)
I know of that, although I haven't found it myself. Didn't play much of Sam 2, not my style of game. (The only reason I have it is it used to be bundled with the rest of the series and at -90%.)

How did it kill the franchise exactly? In the moronic fan hype for the game, we got re-releases of the Duke Nukem back catalogue. Lots of younger people started buying the older games and all things considering, Forever is not as bad as the bandwagon likes to think it is. Forever was a bit ropey yes but it's expansion campaign was excellent.

Duke Nukem Forever did not kill the franchise. It had to be put out there to make way for any new possibilities. The only thing that remotely killed Duke was the fans extremely unrealistic expectations.

Then maybe all the sprites just need to have the resolutions increased and textures improved... Beyond that i couldn't say what would really be needed, if there's good modern day executables that can handle it. Maybe for good measure some new levels and maps, although how you could extend the story I'm not too sure.

I remember having more fun in deathmatches, although i was a beast on one public map...

Good times...
