By that account, why would you pay 60$ to play a fake reality?

If you had to justify your entertainment as making financial sense, no one would ever be entertained. Do what you enjoy.

What FL had Economy wise was sad. Sure you could trade items and it would effect prices a bit. For me trading stuff in FL seemed tacked on at the end almost like they didn't care about that feature. The EVE economy is way intense, ever crash the market for a specific item .... its very fun. And if you can figure out a good way to make isk in EVE you don't have to pay any RL money to play, also a very nice feature.

Because once I pay for it once, it's done with. NO MMO is worth the $15 a month, you should get a lot more value out of your game than $15 a month, plus, nobody woudl be satisfied with their MMO going out of business, or deleting their character after a month.
With a game, if you paid $15 for it, and got a months worth of play out of it, you would probably feel ok about it and maybe put it away, uninstall it, or sell it. With an MMO, if you had to delete your character every month, noone would play. An MMO is not really a game, it's based on addiction. Random rewards.

How's that? I generally agree, since I can't stick to one game that much, but I can't say what it's worth to another person. It costs about $30 for 2 people to go to a movie, including tickets, snack and drink. That's just for 2 hours entertainment, and I don't leave with a copy of the movie either. You get a lot more entertainment time in an MMO than 2 hrs.
If I were the type of gamer to stick to a single game, then an MMO at $10-20 would probably save me a lot of money in the long run. MMO's don't even have steep system requirements like a stand alone game usually does (non gog.com of course!) so pc upgrades aren't really even a factor.

The "seeing a movie in the theater is more expensive per hour" argument fails on many levels, primarily in that most people don't considar $10 an hour for GENERAL entertainmnet (Hooker joke shield) a good value. Would you pay $200 for season 3 of the show 24? 20 hours of entertainment!

All MMO's, by their definition, are based on either grinding (Which is a non-game concept) or random reward. Rat's pushing a stick.

I haven't even played Eve, but it's obvious to me that it transcends that definition quite easily. It's easy to hate MMOs, though, isn't it?

so why do we go to cinema then? if you say that paying 10 bucks for one hour of entertainment is not a good deal why do cinemas exist then?
you don't know anything about eve. you haven't even played the trail version and you come to the thread and complain about the game.
it is a quite impolite thing to do. You are offending both pro-eve posters as well as people who dislike the game.
There is 21 days trail on steam. free. install the game play it for 10 hours at least and then come here and say what you don't like. but please don't comment on subjects which you have no idea about.

To be sure! Luckily, no popular MMO has yet to do so.

High level players who are very active tend to have the option to play EVE for free. In fact, even be able to fund 2-3 accounts. Make money, buy a PLEX and use it to extend an account for 30 days...rince and repeat. And with a decent character making the money for such a PLEX can take only a day or two of grinding and maybe a bit of luck.
Anyway, speaking of EVE, anyone heard of CCP's project which involves EVE and consoles? They're making a console MMOFPS which will be tied to EVE Online. It's a unique project but how it will work out is anyone's guess. Really gutsy move nevertheless.

I'm all for people working on MMO's for consoles, but I wish they'd stick to the formula and keep it a space sim.
