Fable 2 is now out as a games on demand release for xbox live. It's been split into 5 chapters, the first of which is free. I'm not sure of the pricing of the others yet (they're apparently purchased in game rather than as seperate downloads) but I'll report back when I find out more, the download should be done by now.
If nothing else this could be handy for people on the fence about the game and wanting a demo. A pretty cool thing is that this episodic version is the same as the disc release, that is to say the achievements and saves are transferable and it's not treated like a seperate product
Update: Oooh episode 2 is 1200 points (and nearly 5GB on top of the 2 for the free intro), presuming each of the others is the same then that's 4800 points in total, basically full price. So much for the idea that a games on demand title might end up cheaper this way.

How does this chapter thing work? Fable 2 is a very open ended, free roaming type of game, yes?

If they're add-ons to a single game instead of being separate, the amount of stuff to do, and landmass to cover could simply expand, no?

That sounds like a lot more work than Microsoft is known for.

Its pretty clever how they've done it, the 2GB first chapter is basically the start of the game until the return to the main town, you get the first 2 quests (after the tutorial) and the open countryside is freely explorable although the start seems to take place on a penninsula and the only exit is through the main town so while you have freedom in that area, you're still stuck there.
The main town is blocked off anyway because of a bandit threat that you have to eliminate and once the threat is gone and the road opens, you get the traditional invisible wall which, when hit, triggers the prompt to buy the next chapter. at 1200 points I can see it being a cheap and simple purchase for some since you could spread the cost out over a while depending on how fast you play it but apart from preferring discs, I can get the GOTY edition of fable 2 cheaper physically than online

Huh, I just played it and it only asked for 800 ms points for Ep 2. I live in the US, do you live somewhere else Aliasalpha? Or maybe they just corrected the price, they had problems with the Left 4 Dead DLC, after all. So its not too bad for me, $40 total, though I'll probably wait and get the GoY edition, which $30 and supposed to come with the premium DLC, ala Mass Effect.

800?? Yeah I'm in australia and our games on demand prices are borderline obscene, au$100 (or us$88 if you'd like the conversion, I sure as fuck don't) for Mass Effect is the real highlight so I'd not be surprised if we're getting the business end of the financial strapon
3200 points would be somewhere around half the price of a new game which is pretty much what it should cost nowdays but since I can get the game of the year edition for that price from shops on ebay I have no incentive to buy this way

Ow, yeah, from what I've heard Australia does generally get the short end of the stick when it comes to gaming. I used to play Lord of the Rings Online and both the main launch and the launch of Moria had major problems in Australia, boxed copies not getting there on time and such. Yeah, it probably is the reason the episode costs so much. Oh, and $88 for Mass Effect?!? Holy Greenbacks Batman!

Because I liked the free episode, was curious, didn't have anything more important to spend cash on, and didn't want to wait for a disc-based version of the game to arrive if I ordered it, I decided to try this download thingy.
For me it cost 1120 points for the second episode (= 126 SEK = 12 Euro = 18 USD = 21 AUD, according to Google), it seems to just add on to the first, not an extra game. What's annoying is that I have to start the game, try to enter the city, accept the download, and then let the Xbox just sit there throughout the almost 5 GB download, I CANNOT do anything else during the time, not continue playing during the time it downloads, nor quit the game and continue the download from the home screen (it's not available outside the game). If I try to exit the download screen (to continue playing, or do something else on the Xbox), the download pauses, though at least it doesn't have to start over the next time, but continues where it stopped.
Yeah, old post, I figured someone may be interested though. Getting the complete pack wouldn't cost that much more than getting a disc with the game of the year edition for me. (687 vs 649 SEK - do the calculations yourself to your currency of choice). Assuming the other episodes cost the same.

What would 1200 points amount to in cash for you then? A 1000 point pack cost me 113 SEK (2000 points being exactly twice the price, 500 exactly half, so there's no reduction for buying more points at a time) so I just calculated based on that.
