QPR! What a result!! When I grew up watching football, (early 90's) they were a top flight team, so fair play to them. They've been exiled for long enough. lol

As it stands, the Baggies are beating Chelsea!!! Awesome result if that stayed as it is.

And, you just gotta enjoy these things when you can, but Aston Villa are top of the English League again!! :D

Nel-A: That said, Fulham are underrated. Martin Jol is an excellent boss, he gets his teams playing attractive football too, so maybe you were right all along!

How do you feel about Nasri? He got a good bit of stick apparently in the previous game?
I've got no hard feelings for Nasri. I hate to see him go, and performances like today's are why. Even with one foot out the door, he gave a better effort than the likes of Arshavin and Walcott.

Fair play mate. One thing about Arsenal is that they do churn out some quality players. So I'm sure someone'll fill his boots. What's the deal with Walcott?! He had the world at his feet not long back. Is he still being played on the wing?

The steadily worsening problem for Arsenal is that players are leaving more quickly than they can be filled. If Nasri were staying, the loss of Fabregas wouldn't hurt quite as much and vice versa. But with both of them gone, now they're asking Ramsey and Wilshere to fill those roles. They're fine players, but they're too young for the task this year, imo.

As for Walcott, he continues to play pretty much exclusively on the wing. Whether that's still by design or from an unwillingness to play into the center more often is up for debate. He's maddening at times. He'll look like a wold beater for a stretch and then disappear for an equal stretch. He's got to add to his game. Burning down the wing and serving up sub-par cross after sub-par cross only gets one so far.

I think we're seeing an Arsenal team in transition that will play counter to their image this year. Unlike the last few years, the backline actually has been the team's strength thus far. In spite of a losing result, Vermaelen was the man of the match for me today. Sagna was his usual steady self, in spite of the fact that he was playing on his opposite side. The youngsters, Jenkinson and Miquel (who were pressed into duty because of injuries to Koscielny, Gibbs, Squilacci and Djorou) didn't look completely out of place. Add to that some strength from the defensive midfield position in the likes of Song and Frimpong, and I think Arsenal's defense will surprise this year.

Cheers for the post bud. See, I've always wanted to see Walcott get a run of games in the middle as a striker. I don;t see him as a winger at all. In a way his pace has worked against him and it seems like he's been shoved out there to do a job.

We've got Gabby Agbonlahor who had a similar situation when he broke into the Villa team. We initially used him on the wing just because his pace was horrific to defenders, but when he played as a striker he was excellent there.

In seasons gone, I would have loved Walcott at Villa Park!

And I hear you abut not being able to replace the players gone out immediately. We've had that at Villa too for too many season now.

Anyway, best of luck for the rest of the season bud! :)
As a Manchester United supporter, I am somewhat worried for the game tomorrow. Tottenham have a good side, and a defensive triangle of De Gea and two of Smalling/Evans/Jones doesn't instill the most confidence at this time. Don't get me wrong, I think they're all very talented players who will come good - although Evans was somewhat disappointing last season - but going up against one of the strongest team in the league with De Gea seemingly low on confidence, and and a somewhat inexperienced duo in front of him... I'm not going to go into crisis mode and claim ir's a disaster waiting to happen, but I do fear it might lead to some dropped points over the next few weeks.

About De Gea, I think he will become a great goalkeeper for United, however - and I've said this since he was first purchased - he is only 20 years old and lacks some experience, he will make mistakes, and some of them will cost us points. The most worrying aspect of his play so far to me is how insecure and easily bullied he seems to be in the area. I know this is something the backroom staff is currently working on, so hopefully it'll be rectified soon.

As an aside, Swansea's new goalkeepr, Vorm, has been absolutely amazing so far. Despite Swansea losing 4-0 to Manchester City, I had him as man of the match, and that penalty save against Wigan was nothing short of divine. If he can keep his performances at this level - which to be fair is a mighty big ask - Swansea should have a great shot at staying up.
I expected much better performance from Tottenham today. They are inferior to Man Utd in almost everything for most of the match.
EDIT: Hmm, they were completely trashed. I am looking with favour on both of these teams but on the other side I don't care too much about them. Tough I often favour Man Utd because most other title contenders I don't like.

So Man Utd are now the most palatable of the title contenders? How the world has changed...

This was a pretty good match, the second half in particular. I'm really pleased that De Gea got a clean sheet, even though he had a couple of shaky moments. Phil Jones put in an excellent performance, I'm really looking forward to seeing where he will be in 3-4 years.

The second goal was great, a beautiful, pacy counterattack.

Looking forward to Sunday's clash against Arsenal now. And hopefully Tottenham will bounce back against Man City. :)

I'll be pleased if the Gunners come out of that one only losing by a goal. :(
Good god that team was young, yet they still managed to totally dominate in 2nd half. De Gea is getting there, just needs to bulk up. And Jones is amazing, really.

Okay, I know it's only the Carling Cup. But really, Norwich? 0-4 to MK Dons?
Possibly shows they are looking to survive in the league at all costs?

I suppose. I mean, I don't blame Norwich or anyone ine the Premiership for fielding a second squad this early in this competition (heck, Arsenal are notorious for it). But losing by 4 at home to a league one side wouldn't sit well with me if I was a supporter who showed up for that game.
Mm, i agree. I hate fielding weakened teams. Sadly, football these days is all about balancing the books. Who cares about winning a trophy? And truly, due to the state of football, if you do win a trophy, but then are relegated, you might be on the verge of administration - as Birmingham City are now. And that is *shocking*.
Birmingham's in financial trouble? Surprising. I know that the drop to the Championship reduces revenues. But I thought there was a parachute payment for teams that went down. I figured between that and the money they'll get from the Europa League, they should at least be in decent shape.

While I'm at it, here are my (useless!) predictions for round three:

Aston Villa 1 Wolves 0
Wigan 0 QPR 1
Blackburn 1 Everton 1
Chelsea 3 Norwich 0
Swansea 1 Sunderland 1
Liverpool 1 Bolton 1
Newcastle 1 Fulham 0
Tottenham 1 Man City 2
West Brom 1 Stoke 0
Man U 2 Arsenal 0
