Any suggestions to which one i should invest my precious greens in?

I'd say EE2, not that it's better (it is, by most definitions though), but it has a better chance of running on Win7-based systems. EE1 has issues for me.
If that's not an issue, EE1 is a bit simpler, but you still have to learn to be seriously aggressive in your play style. The scope of epochs is thrilling!
You will eventually want both, they're superb games.

Alas though, I don't think GOG accepts legumes as currency.

Empire Earth 1 is a lot better IMO, but honestly haven't played a lot of 2.
Don't even bother with the 3rd, although you probably already know that...
