barjed: Yeah, well, it sounded nice but the game itself is still miles away from being enjoyable. The amount of bugs is astounding. The UI clunky and unintuitive. The performance is, pardon me, shit. I got four CTDs in a span of four hours. It's hard to believe it's a Stardock game.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for the patches.

Blarg: Whats a CTD?

Crash to desktop.

michaelleung: A CLOTH MAP?!!!
Why don't more games have this anymore?

LOTRO Mines of Moria had a cloth map of Moria.
I recommend the Stardock IRC channel

There'll be more patches than you can handle.

Says crash fixes are coming tomorrow. Personally I've had none and the game feels quite polished already. Campaign is a pretty good tutorialish thing but maybe I'm just overly familiar cause of the betas...there's also an in-game text tutorial.

If you're referring to his avatar, that's a very real woman called Felicia Day.

Yeah I know, I meant..ah nevermind, would take too long to explain. :P

Alias is frequently mistaken for a woman due to his avatar, I assume the idea was that such may happen to lackoo as well.
^Thanks. :)
It's fun though.

Controls are totally freaking me out, lol. Feels incredibly counterintuitive in the beginning >.<
I need to find some keyboard control for moving the screen, mouse feels so wrong :E
And considering the 'required' specs and my 6core + hd5870 I'm getting a less smooth map control than I would expect so far to be honest.

My initial verdict:
Definitely needs some additional content with modding (more spells, at the very least), but has a good sturdy foundation (outside of a few CTDs and poor performance :p).

It's not. While the campaign certainly sets you in a place that would be appropriate for a tutorial it does little else than that. You get your hero, land on a beach and that's it. It doesn't say anything about the controls or what you should do next. It simply throws you into a game that, let's not forget, has a very steep learning curve and expects you to know everything from the start. Now, that might work if the manual actually explained what makes the cogs spin instead of breezing through every subject.
I know there's the Civpedia-like dongle but the game never tells you it's there. I found it by accident after good two hours of playing.
I don't know what in-game text tutorial you mean and I hope it's not the very brief summary you can find in that encyclopedia because it tells you virtually nothing. How the hell should I know that there is a possibility of buying items in the towns for your heroes? The option is buried so deep in the UI that you simply can't find it if you are not aware where it's located.
The whole interface screams lack of polish. Even the cursor is buggy and doesn't always work like it's supposed to, for example when assigning points at the level up.
The game's biggest sin, though is, as I said before, it's stability and performance. I had it crash on me while leveling up, when entering the combat, when exiting the combat and even while trying to access my sovereign's items. I read on the forums that's very common for the ATI users so it's not an isolated issue. This and the performance getting reduced to a crawl in the later stages of the game.
I love the core concept, I love most of the ideas but the execution is, so far, very mediocre.

So basically all this fuss is about a game that looks 10 yrs old already, lacks polish and has the stability of win95? I don't get it!
Viral marketing at it's best I guess.

Thanks for posting this information. I was keeping a cautious eye on this one due to it being billed as a spiritual successor to MoM, but bugs, crashing, and general poor performance are an absolute deal-breaker. I also wasn't too thrilled about the art style from the screenshots I've seen (strikes me as very amateurish). Well, at least I can scratch this one off my list without having to spend much time looking into it.

He's just one user....I've had no real issues as an ATI user. It's a bit absurd to expect a PC game to work great for everyone even before it officially launches.
The art might seem strange but if you see it in action you might like it. I felt the same about Torchlight then played it and loved the look.
They're going to be patching it lots. They're releasing another patch tonight before the day 0 patch which fixes crashes and other issues.
It's a great game...I think it'd be a shame to write it off so easily. =/

I dunno what to tell you. I'm terrible at these games and I'm finding it very easy to grasp thanks to the campaign. It's telling me what to do all the time. If you're somebody that needs an in-depth hands-on tutorial detailing every single part of the game then yeah, I can see why you're frustrated. Stardock hates those...I generally do too.
The cursor is buggy yup...I hope that will be fixed by day 0. The shop thing you're told in the sandbox mode...that is an inconsistency that should be in the campaign as well I suppose, yes. But it's not buried...you go to a town, click on your guy, click the button to buy stuff....
Update is live.
