I guess i'm lucky, I'm a demoscener so I've met and had beers with a ton of awesome electronic (and other) musicians. A lot of the folks that were mentioned in this thread (VNV Nation, Combichrist, KFMDM, Front 242)
We also had Front 242 at 'the alternative party' in Finland, and they played, and I got to meet them, and show them demos. It was _MASSIVE._
Anyway, demosceners make stuff and give it away, and compete to see who's the most popular/unpopular/over/underrated/loudest/most ambient/WUBWUBWUBWUBWUBviolent, etc ...
Some of my favorite stuff from this past year was covered in some of the radio shows we've done over the past year on scenesat (which is a streaming radio of demoscene music and related stuff.) (
http://scenesat.com ) - the past shows are on re-live (
http://relive.nu) - but most are available for download from places like ftp://scene.org/ and such.
If you like violent dubstep, for example, here's the winner of Evoke 2010's music compo - Glxblt - Abell 2009
