Aaron86: I've yet to finish off the main quest line and any guild quest line because I keep restarting, and I'd like to finish the damn thing for once without being made to feel bad for doing so.
The way I see it, TES fans felt bitter towards Oblivion because Beth focused more on surface polish and the marketable aspects of the game instead on detail, which fans saw as breaking the traditions of the franchise. (Although admittedly, Morrowind lacked some of the deep detail that Daggerfall had.)

Still, Oblivion is a good game and I mean it. It has problems, sure, but it's up there with the best when sized up on its own. I was actually disappointed with Oblivion when it came out and yet I still played it through 2 or 3 times.
I guess Oblivion's situation was like Deus Ex 2: Invisible War then.

Though the level scaling was it's biggest problem. And I find it weird that so many think it was meant to make the game easier (to accommodate the proverbial console kiddies) while for me the scaling made the game harder when combined with how easy it was to gimp my character.

Fenixp: I don't think anyone really said "skip tribunal," just "activate tribunal when you actually feel ready."
What would be best......playing through with Vanilla Morrowwind, then play through with the first expansion & so on......or play through vanilla, then install all expansions and play again?

Once you get some deflect damage gear (somewhere around the time strong monsters start spawning) the game becomes a cakewalk. 100% deflect (or was it return?) damage means you can just walk to a monster and it will kill itself to death. Only mages are now any real threat, and they are prone to die quickly if rushed, soo...

Why would they even allow such unbalanced gear(100% deflect) in the game? I mean c'mon.....

That's a TES tradition, I guess.

- In Morrowind, I could make gear that gave me 100% chameleon, so enemies would never see or attack me, even when attacked.
- In Oblivion, I could create gear that reflected 100% spell/weapon damage back to my foes.
- In Skyrim, I can enchant armor that allows me to cast all destruction spells for free and never run out of Magicka.

Game balance is for wussies.

Why question the balance when a bit of self control will do the trick. Just because a player can create an uber character/ armor/ weapon/ spell doesn't mean they have to do so.

I know, but the temptation is there nonetheless. :\

I guess it could be useful if one wanted to just wander around and explore.....but that's about it. Playing with such stats, to me, would be like cheating.

You can activate expansions at any point in the game, at least for PC version. Still, Bloodmoon doesn't change anything about vanilla except for 2 NPCs, so there is no point in deactivating that.

Basically, you can deactivate Tribunal and then activate it when you're level 20 without anything bad happening.
I would greatly recommend keeping Tribunal on from the beginning, simply because of how it changes the journal. It not only makes the journal more user-friendly, but it adds a few features that can prevent quests from breaking (or even un-break them if they're already broken).

I will agree that getting the Dark Brotherhood armor at the very beginning of the game is unbalancing, but you can just stuff it in a chest somewhere until you're level 10 or something. And remember to bee-line it for Ebonheart if you're sick of getting ambushed.

You can also get started a little early with Solstheim by doing the Raven Rock quests. There's an in-game timer between each RR quest, and spreading it out instead of just resting for 3 days between quests makes for a better experience. For the first five or so quests there's not any real dangerous fighting, either. You can easily do those at level 12 or 15. I'd recommend against doing any of the other Solstheim quests until much later, though.

Journal changes are an .exe tweak that gets done upon installing, no need to actually have tribunal active for that.
When is GOG gonna get the first 4 parts on here? (Arena, Daggerfall, Legends and Adventures)

Arena and Daggerfall are freeware, and the UESP has nice fan-made setup packages of them to download, DOSBox included and everything.

Redguard and Battlespire are much harder to acquire, and even more so to get to work on today's machines. GOG magic would certainly be welcome there.

Yeah, I have the first two but it is a pain using dosbox... And I'd rather have the magic from GOG work on those two also :0 The 4 games in a GOG exclusive package would be sweet!

Check the reviews on this site. The reviewer explains how to get Arena & Daggerfall to run well in dosbox.
