There are a ton of old games I wish I could still play. I think that's probably true of all of us. When I look at the games I used to play (before Windows Vista broke them), I notice that a lot of them are from Eidos and/or Lucas Arts. Some of the games I'm thinking of have been re-released by other means (e.g. Steam), but those re-releases have not been "upgraded" to be compatible with today's computers.
Which is really annoying. (
I don't want to buy the Jedi Knight series off Steam because the games still don't work right with Windows 7. I don't want to spend six hours fiddling with third-party software with the result that I still can't get Thief to work properly. I don't want to have to use an emulator for another type of machine just to play a game of Loom or Monkey Island.
Isn't there some way to convince Eidos, Lucas Arts, Bioware, Electronic Arts, and some of these other publishers that they can make money by working with GoG? I would LOVE to be able to play Baldur's Gate again, in high-resolution, without having to install a bunch of hacks and modifications. Perhaps if we start with just one of their games, say, Thief: Dark Project, and demonstrate what kind of money they can make?

Look, I think you are saying too much "not". GOG is a great service but PC retrogaming isn't for pussies anyway, and probably GOG itself will never bring every single game of the past to modern systems.
One of the funniest thing of retrogaming is to make the game run, be it with emulation or patches or whatever, so if you "do not want" simply give up and buy a console and leave the bad PC alone :-P

Seeing as our own little terrorist group from GOG (the UGSS) didn't exactly make LArts bring the games to GOG, the only thing left to do is to force them at gunpoint, to be honest.

I would LOVE to see x-wing alliance and/or x-wing vs tie fighter.
Did you know people are STILL playing them online using third party software? I was one of them about a year back, unfortunantly it invulved me staying up stupidly late to play with Americans though most of the time. I cant persoanally cant pull if off with school ect but i think a release on GOG could give it a nice shot in the arse so to speak.

I have a feeling the lack of DRM is holding them back. It will keep GOG from expanding in general I bet, sadly.

If games on GoG keep selling, you'll see more publishers come in...that's what it all comes down to.

Besides that, some people have observed that there is no 'pirated' GOG-version-games in torrent or warez sites, disproving the notion that no DRM always means moar piracy.

Yeah I find that very cool.
Personally, I paid a really good, cheap price for the games on GoG and I WANT GoG to keep providing more games so it's a win win for them AND me.

They've appeared, they're just very rare. Partly cause a site like this doesn't attract many douchebags (pirates), I imagine.

More than likely because the games are "So last week" and thus not really fodder for the apparent majority of pirates who seem to be vapid hyperactivce selfish little shits who haven't got the patience for anything longer than a 6 hour blastfest. Interestingly enough if the industry went back to making good games rather than fast & pretty games, we'd get the kind of games we want AND it'd dramatically reduce piracy because it'd make people do the thing they hate the most, think!
