Tarm: Why not grey out or minimise reviews done for a earlier version of a game instead?
Wishbone: Because invalidating all existing reviews every time GOG makes a new installer with different banner ads is a bad idea? Sorry, didn't mean to sound so snarky, but that's about it, I think. There are so many updates to games which are not relevant for reviews that I really do think it would be a bad idea.
That's true. I forgot about that.
But I still have reservations about editing reviews for various reasons.
1: People might think "I'll finish it later".
2: People will read the first bad review and are unlikely to go back and read the updated one if they are on the fence and about to give the game a second chance.
3: People meddle. They can have loads of reasons to vandalise. For example getting angry at GOG and go crazy on their old reviews because they know there's a chance people will read them.
They get mad at the developer and change their review to a rant. Etc.
4: Reviews might grow into novels when gamers add to them while they are playing the game.
In short. People can be aggravating meddlers.
Or is this me showing how much I despise people in general? I got burned on a customer service job so I sometimes doesn't notice when I go overboard.
