Hello,
I purchased Civ IV on eBay. It did not come with a manual or activation key. I have installed it and I cannot login to gamespy. Is Civ 4 offline and did they stop printing manuals for the UK version? I fear that I have been the victim of bootlegging.
I have the "Complete edition" (US). It has a quick-start manual, tech tree and spec charts.

EDIT: I think I am wrong about Civ 4 Complete Edition having SecuRom. I think it was Civ 3 that had it.

I'm not sure CivIV used any cdkeys to begin with, at least I can't recall my base game from the Civilization Chronicles having one.

And I also once used a pirated version and it worked fine with gamespy (due to the lack of cd key I believe), so your issue might be different.

Look for a manual in the start menu, or on the disk. Publishers have begun phasing out printed manuals to save money. I don't know that its whats going on here, but Its a possibility.
My copy of Civ4 complete came with no extras, no tech tree, no manual, just a DVD and its case.
My Sid Meier's Civilization IV Complete has a quick-start guide the frontpage of which says "3 Full Manuals on Disc". There seems to be no cd-key.

A quick google search with "civ 4 gamespy" came up with a GEEK[NCW] aliased guy's solution to a similar problem:

To see if the problem was with an interaction between GameSpy, Civ4 and the internet, I created a new account with the same name, email address, etc. within Civ4. After doing so, the game allows me to connect without errors.

no you just got the cheap version of civ4 complete the manuals are on disc and theres no keys
Ok.
Thanks for the support. The box seems suspiciously blurry, however. I had searched earlier and I suppose I had just purchased the skimpy UK edition.

Thanks again.
